School meals matter because of students that lack the proper nutrition have trouble
focusing when in school. The students who eat healthy and eat nutritious meals usually are excel.
Once there has been problems with most of the student based on what they ate at school, there
has been programs set up to improve the poor diets, promote physical activities, and advance the
students education. The school meals were first changed and made more nutritious by the first
lady of Michelle Obama. Most schools then decided to add more fruits, vegetables, and whole
grains to get the students healthy and get them more educated and focused in school. This article
is relevant to research because it explains what the difference in proper and improper nutrition
could do to help the students in school if it became healthy for them.

"Recommended Nutrition Standards for Foods Outside of School Meal Programs." N.p., Dec.
2009. Web. 25 Oct. 2016.

Most children throughout the United States eat most of their daily food at their school, so
that shows that schools have an important influence on the students diet. Schools now have
breakfast, lunch, and after school snack programs that are in charge of meeting certain nutritional
requirements of serving more fruit, vegetables, and whole grains. Once schools all met these
standards, it started to help the students start and stay on a healthy diet. It is important that
schools leave drinkable water there throughout the whole school for free for the students so that
they can drink some whenever they need to so that they can stay hydrated. It is now up to the
schools to get the students healthy because it brings a smaller risk of diabetes and other health
problems to them. This article is relevant to research because it shows what keeping students
healthy does for them all.

"III. Healthy Food in Schools - Let's Move." N.p., n.d. Web. 25 Oct. 2016.
A schools environment can now strongly impact the behavior and the health of their
students. Over 90% of enrollees attend the schools that offer at least one or more federal nutrition
programs in the school. It is important for those programs because it could make a big difference
in the childrens behavior and their health. The school lunch programs must meet a food based
and nutrient based standard to start and keep a good diet for their students. Students still did not
make the healthful choice for lunch so the dietary guidelines have been updated that now include
more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Ever since the school lunches have been updated, that
has reduced sodium and saturated fats. That now sets a maximum and minimum of calories in the
school meals for the students. This article is relevant to research because it explains how the
nutrition has changed in school meals for the students to keep them healthy.
