Maris Personal Style

I want others to view me a as romantically classic girl who isnt afraid to embrace her
femininity, but is bold and modern and in power, the feminine brains of the operation,
dominating the fashion critic scene. I want to be remembered and respected, while holding on
to my romantic and passive, kind personality. I like modeling items that are quintessentially
feminine, like lace or pink, while incorporating them into rigid outfits showing class and
strength such as suits, or pairing them with dress pants.

i.

What type of balance is used on the board and why did you pick that
type?

I went for asymmetrical balance, meaning that there is a different setup on each side, but the
attraction of attention to both sides is equal and proportionate. When it comes to design I am a
fairly orderly and meticulous person, however I believe in variety when constructing things, and
not always perfect symmetry, as life is rarely even and clean-cut all of the time.
ii.

Where is the emphasis point and why did you decide to use that space?

The emphasis point is mainly found in the band of colors and pictures going across the poster
horizontally. I chose to color the squares behind these pictures so they would be emphasized. I
think its important that the eyes are drawn towards the pictures in a piece first. I wanted the
colors of my autumn season to be the emphasis, as I find them thematically important.
iii.

How have you achieved rhythm in the board? Did you use repetition or
some other method?

I achieved a fun, bright and lively rhythm through my use of bright autumn colors, even and
neat alignment of the text, and the flowy, upbeat text that I used.

iv.

Proportions- how did you decide to use different sizes of pictures and
organize them on your project?

I had pictures of things that are usually smaller surpass the size of the outfit photos in order to
create a funky, surreal effect that Isnt serious. I made sure pictures were fairly evenly spaced
and spread throughout the photo, in order not to have the eye focus on an uneven clump of
photos.
v.

Describe the color schemes and attributes (hues, values, and Chroma)
used and why you selected these choices?

My color theme is varied autumn colors, rather than a color scheme, in order to convey my fall
tones that best work for me (green, teal, magenta, dark purple, orange). I used fairly rich but
subdued chroma, with tinted values.

vi.

How did you use space (the sizes of the pictures, how you used the white
space?)

I tried to leave spaces that were less closed or open, to give the eyes a break, and I left white
spaces around text, so that it would be easier to read and less distracted and boxed in.
vii.

Textures what types of textures did you use to create the unique
project and why?

In my photos I attempted to include items with different textures, especially for the purses, that
would draw the eye in and distract from all of the flat graphics that are around the pictures and
text.
viii.

Lines what types of lines did you use in your project and why? Think
about things like the word styles and other outlines

I used all straight lines, for shapes and borders, to convey the classic side of my personality,
straightforward, neat and more powerful. Some lines are thicker, as they are more important to

the central focus. For the word styles, I used more feminine and fun fonts to convey my
creative and passionate romantic personality.
ix.

Pattern- what type of pattern did you create in your project and why?

I created a pattern of squares and rectangles throughout, mainly to give my poster the
appearance of good, solid design and rigidity alongside the fun colors and pictures. I wanted
stability and structure.
x.

Shape- what shapes are your pictures in? What shapes did you use for
the plackets, key word section and the fashion mission statement section
and why?

All rectangles and squares to show my talent for neat, strong and solid design that fits with my
classic personality. I like some variety but I always have one element that I keep the same in
any design for uniformitys sake.
Ten items and how they relate to my fashion personality:
1. Full Lace Suit (white) - This suit fits in with both my classic and romantic elements, as it
has feminine lace, along with the classic color white and a suit, which is meant for
formal occasions, for modesty, and creating power in an angular silhouettes.
2. Blouse and pencil skirt (both grey/blue outfits) - These silk and lace outfits again
embrace both personalities as they have elements from each, romantic shown in the silk
and lace, classic in the suit.
3. Coach purse (black) - This classic style of Coach purse more closely follows my classic
personality, the black with pleats and gold chain representing a more commanding and
powerful upper class personality. The rectangle shape fits further with my rigid, austere
work personality.
4. Overcoat (2, white) - These two coats represent the classic side of my personality with
the straight lines and classic black and white colors, and overall rectangle shape creating
a more formal and classic look.

5. Magenta shoes - These classically romantic lavishly colored heels would look great with
any formal classic outfit due to their velvet covering, gold heel and pointy-toed style,
and lots of romantic outfits due to the feminine color.
6. Pink winter overcoat - This more romantic styled tie coat incorporates pink, lace and fur
in order to create a feminine style that works to establish a tiny waist, a delicate frame
and flirtacious shape. This coat is rooted in passionate femininity and a bold
self-expression of personality.
7. Green purse- This embroidered, crafty purse represents the romantic side of my
personality, with its lace background, and floral embroidery showing a more soft and
feminine side. This is an offbeat purse that expresses a romantic and passionate
personality by its quality and uniqueness.
8. Pink skirt and cardigan- This outfit also represents my romantic personality, in that it is
floral and pink, and emphasizes frame proportions in a more girly way. The high skirt, its
flare and corresponding cardigan emphasize a thin waist and and small torso, and
femininity in general.
9. Nude shoes - used for more romantic personalities, more sensual than a sensible solid
classic color. These shoes can go with many colors and go especially well with pastel
pink, a romantic-type color.
10. Floral jewelry- oftentimes accessories make the outfit, and for the romantic personality
this is especially true in that the style of jewelry you wear can make a normal look,
appear romantic depending on the type of jewelry craftsmanship, color, and design.
Floral jewelry increases the look of youthfulness and femininity.
