Ocean lesson

-Ask: What are some habitats we have learned about?


Today we will learn about the ocean habitat
Preview vocabulary words (visuals)

Stop that video
We will watch a video describing the ocean zones and layer. We will Stop the video
and discuss key points/details. Students can write their idea on a post it.
After video
Show students the ocean zone water bottle. (Realia) With their input we will label
each zone.
Ocean Booklet (flip book)
Model-Create an ocean layer flip book (student will provide information to fill in)

In this lesson we will describe details of a story by writing sentences.
2. Students will work in pairs and participate in a think-pair-share activity.
The teacher will ask questions one at a time and answer the following questions
with their partner:
who were characters in the story, setting, what was the problem,solution?

1.Teacher will introduce a sequence activity to help students recall the sequence of
the story by providing a Picture Sort activity.
Students will cut the pictures out, sequence the pictures of the story in order from
beginning, middle and ending. Next, I will scaffold to make sure it was correctly
sequenced.

-4 corners Activity: Students will pick a corner of a sea animal they would like to
research. (four per group, if full students have a second choice)

-Review center expectations and assignment expectations.
-Provide students with animal research sheet to gather necessary information.
-Centers will be set up with chrome books and books on specific ocean animals.
Research
-Students will begin research by reading books, watching videos, and searching
websites about their ocean animal.
-Come up with questions to ask at aquarium.
-Teacher will visit groups for support.
Day 4
Field Trip
Students will go on a class field trip to aquarium to gather more information, take
pictures and ask questions.

Create a 5-7-minute presentation describing your sea animal. Choose a project idea.
