TypecurveDerivation
TheFetkovichtypecurvegraphconsistsofthefollowingtwosectionswhichhavebeenblendedtobecontinuousand
therebyencompasstheentireproductionlife,fromtransienttoboundarydominatedflow:

Theearlytimeportionisderivedfromtransientflowequationswhichcomefromthefieldofwelltestanalysis,
whereasthelatetimeportionconsistssimplyoftheArpstypecurve.Thecommonlinkbetweenthetwosectionsis
theexponentialdeclinecurve.Itisthelimitingbehaviourofallthetransientcurveswhentheyreachboundary
dominatedflow.ItisalsothefirstcurveintheArpsfamilyofhyperbolicdeclinecurves(b=0).
EarlyTimeCurves
ThereservoirthatFetkovichconsideredindevelopingthetransientflowequationswasthatofaclosedcircular

Obviouslytransientflowis,bydefinition,independentofreservoirsizeandthiswouldbeclearlyevidentiftheflow
ratewereplottedasdimensionlessratevs.dimensionlesstime.Asseenbelow,allreservoirswouldfollowthesame
curveatearlytimeandwouldonlydeviateatlatertimes,whenthereservoirboundaryisfelt.Asthereservoirsize
increases,transientflowlastslonger,andthedeviationtoboundarydominatedflowoccurslater.
Ifthesamecurveswerereplottedondifferentaxes,theshapeswouldvarysignificantly.Aparticularlyusefulformat
