The student teacher observed a 6th grade math class. The lesson focused on equivalent ratios and fractions. The teacher engaged students by having them discuss homework answers with peers and transfer notes into notebooks. Students participated when called on and taught concepts to partners, reinforcing their own learning. Peer teaching and discussion improved understanding of the lesson objectives. The teacher used sign language and call-and-response to focus students and facilitate partner discussions. The observer noted high student engagement and emerging question about supporting less social students during collaborative activities.
