CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION
Nowadays we as a teacher need to be well trained with regards to the technology in order to be
literate so that we impart it with our profession as we all know that this generation is more on
computerized even in the registry forms we are going to fill-up such of this is we called the
Learner Information System (LIS), wherein the school administrator monitor each students
information in different grade and section they are enrolled with.
What is LIS? LIS is a system for maintaining the registry of learners aimed at meeting the
following objectives: provide a standardized registration system for learners, track learner
progress/performance, provide learner information for better program planning and supervision
of schools and learning centers, enhance management of learner records. The classroom adviser
roles is to enroll appropriate enrollees to section handled and update or correct personal
background and information of learners. The classroom advisers need SF1 (School Register) in
filling up the data in the LIS. They must ensure that information in their respective class
registries are updated and accurate. The cut-off date for reporting annual enrollment is the 1 st
Friday of the week of school opening. This annual enrolment is the total number of learner who
reported in school and attended classes from the school opening to the cut-off date. The annual
enrolment data will be automatically pushed to the enrolment summaries in the EBEIS.
The late enrollees are learners who reported in school after the cut-off date. These data be
encoded in the system including Date of First Attendance after enrolment date have been
entered in the system. In order to maintain an updated learner registry, late enrollees can be still
encoded in the system even beyond the deadline for encoding annual enrolment data. Additional

enrolment data referred to as enrolment tags shall be collected and these are the following:
CCT recipient refers to learners whose families are recepients of th Conditional Cash Transfer
(CCT) under Pantawid Pamiliyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) of the DSWD, ALIVE refers to
learners who are enrolled in Arabic Language and Islamic Values Education classes, Balik Aral
refers to learners who finished a grade level, stopped schooling and enrolled in the next grade
level after a year or more as of the enrolment cut-off date, Repeater refers to learner who failed
or left a particular grade level in any previous school year and are enrolled in the same grade
level where they are failed or left as of the enrolment cut-off date.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY


In 2011, the Department of Education initiated the Learners Information System (LIS),
an online facility that provides for the registration of learners enrolled in public schools. Since its
installation, the LIS has allowed the Department to generate the total public school enrolment
based on the actual registration of learners.
The LIS is an innovative tool that the Department uses to manage information with the
aim of promoting transparency, informed decision making, and empowerment at different levels
of the organization. While being a tech-based solution, the LIS involves an inclusive,
community-driven process that thrives because of the active engagement and participation of all
teachers, principals, planning officers and other DepEd personnel all throughout the Philippines.
According to Secretary of Education Armin A. Luistro, Considering the size of the
Department and the number schools under it, it is very critical for the Agency to be equipped
with the right information at the right time to be able to make better decisions. This is essentially
an online registry of learners that is important for any educational system or institution. We need
to continually get to know our learners better so that we can respond better.
Out of the 46,648 public schools in the country, only 140 (0.3%) schools have failed to
submit data for SY 2014-2015, which demonstrates a very high participation and submission rate

by the schools. The concerned divisions have already been instructed to complete the remaining
school information immediately.
This system is envisioned to allow the Department to better track its learners in both formal and
non-formal instruction so that more appropriate interventions can be formulated in the provision
of quality education for all Filipino learners. As an example, students who transfer from one
school to another can be monitored and better assisted by using data from the LIS.
The use of automation and technology has helped the Department update information on
enrollment for planning, budgeting and resource allocation among others. Luistro added that,
What used to take ten months to collect, consolidate and validate has now been reduced to three
months. This is a result of the use of technology and the power of our people.
As of June 6, 2014, the Department is looking at a total of more than 20 million student enrollees
for public schools. deped.gov.ph

The above illustration pertains to the level of competency such knowledge, skills, and
attitude on Learner Information System Using E-Classroom of Selected Teachers. The researcher
utilized input-process-output diagram in order to clearly define the variables of the study.
Inputs include the demographic profile of the participants which included the age, sex,
prior knowledge about computer manipulation in encoding of information of the pupils.
Likewise, the level of knowledge, skills, and attitude of Selected Teacher in Lucena.
The process aspect of the study was focused on the analysis on the significant difference
on the level of knowledge, skills, and attitude of the respondents when grouped according to
their demographic profile.
Finally, the by-products of this study were presented in the diagram under the output. The
output was the suggested training program for the Selected teachers in Lucena on e-classroom
application. E-classroom enhancement was also one of the outcomes of this study.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM


This study aimed to determine the level competency ( knowledge, skills and attitude) of Selected
Teachers in using e-classroom application as a basis for Personnel Development Program.
Specifically, it answered the following:
1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of:
a) Age
b) Sex

2. What is the level of knowledge of the Selected Teachers in Lucena on (LIS) Learners
Information System using e-classroom?
3. What is the level of skills of the Selected Teachers in Lucena on (LIS) Learners
Information System using e-classroom?
4. What is the level of attitude of the Selected Teachers in Lucena on (LIS) Learners
Information System using e-classroom?
5. Is there a significant difference on the level of knowledge, skills and attitude of Selected
Teacher in Lucena when they are grouped according to demographic profile?
RESEARCH HYPOTHESIS
The researchers formulated the following null hypotheses which were tested at 5%
significance level. There is no significant difference on the level of competency such as
knowledge, skills and attitude of Selected Teachers in Lucena when grouped according to their
demographic profile.
SCOPE AND LIMITATION
This study dealt with determining the level of competence such as knowledge, skills and
attitude on (LIS) Learner Information System of Selected Teachers in Lucena in using eclassroom application. The respondents of the study were teachers of Selected Teacher in Lucena
regardless of their age, sex, level of knowledge, skills, and attitude of Selected teachers in using
e-classroom.
The study was conducted in any schools in Lucena City, Division of Lucena. Specifically,
which involved 15 teachers in high school and 15 teachers in elementary as the sum total of 50
respondents. In the formulation of self-devised questionnaire, the researchers obtained the
information from e-classroom and ICT framework.

Data gathered from the respondents were treated statistically by using simple percentage,
weighted arithmetic mean, t-test and ANOVA.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
Different schools and teachers stand too directly and indirectly benefit in this study. In
particular, this study is beneficial to the researchers, to the respondents, school administrator,
learners, and to the future researchers.
The Respondents. They will directly benefit in this study since they could assess their
level of competency ( knowledge, skills, and attitude) on Learner Information System in
using e-classroom.
School Administrators. Administrators would get a picture of how teachers
knowledgeable, skillful and attitude of the implementation of (LIS) Learner Information
System. This would help them in the provision of the necessary trainings for teachers.
This would made be possible through personnel development program.
Learners. The pupils would benefit from the result of the study. They would benefit from
the result of the study by the implementation of the said system their record supervise and
it also track their progress/performance in the class. They would receive better instruction
aided by e-classroom application and guided by effective and efficient teachers who are
equipped with latest trends of teaching.
Future Researchers. The future researchers would benefit from this study by conducting a
follow-up study concerning this research.
DEFINITION OF TERMS

Operational and conceptual definition of important terms utilized in this study were given
in order to facilitate better understanding of the herein study.
Knowledge.understanding of or information about a subject that you get by experience or study,
either known by one person or by people generally.
Skills.an ability to do an activity or job well, especially because you have practised it.
Attitude. means the individual's prevailing tendency to respond favorably or unfavorably to
an object (person or group of people, institutions or events). Attitudes can be positive (values) or
negative (prejudice).
Teachers. refer to those persons who are teaching in Selected Teacher in Lucena.
E-classroom. refers to electronic classroom equipped with electronic white board with LCD
projector and six (6) LCD monitor, provision of having internet coonection.
Technology. refers to the making, usage and knowledge of tools, techniques, crafts, systems or
methods of organization in order to solve a problem or serve some purpose (Merriam-Webster
Dictionary, 2008).

CHAPTER II

FOREIGN LITERATURE/ STUDY


This chapter presents the published and unpublished materials consulted by the
researchers in conceptualizing the study. Such materials were sourced from books, magazines,
internet articles and theses. These data were imperative since they provide the researcher with the
needed theories and concepts about the topic.
MIT (2009) gave emphasis that Student Information System (SIS) provides students with
access to their academic and biographic records as well as the ability to update their address
information and preregister for classes; it provides instructors and departmental administrators
with class list information;and provides advisors and departments with access to the individual
academic records of their students.Therefore, SIS is an integrated approach in acquiring, storing,
analyzing and controlling the flow of student data throughout the institution. Highly developed
SIS can be useful in nearly all institutiona departments functions and can greatly increase
efficiency and response times of traditional labor and timeintensive processing of student data.
According to Evangelista(2008) the universitys Student Information System (SIS) of
Nueva Vizcaya StateUniversity is a secure, web accessible interactive computer system that
allows user access to grade reports, transcripts, schedule of classes, and remaining balance for
the semester and register for classes online. Through the system, students would be assigned a
unique identification number. All data to and from the university would use that unique identifier.
The use of individual student records would: 1) Increase the admissions capacity to follow a
students progress over time; 2) provide better quality data to drive more enlightened policy
decisions resulting in enhanced educational opportunities for all students; 3) reduce data
collection burden through a web enabled SIS; and 4) as a tool of parents in monitoring the
academic performance of their children.
According to Desousa (2008), Web based application have four core benefits. These are
the following: 1) Compatibility. Web based applications are far more compatible across
platforms than traditional installed software like web browsers. 2) Efficiency. Everyone hates to
deal with piles of paper unless they do not have any other alternatives. The benefit of web based
solution makes services and information available from any webfacilitated Personal Computer
(PC). 3) Security of live data. Normally in more complex systems data is moved about separate
systems and data sources. In webbased systems, these systems and processes can often be
merged by reducing the need to move the data around. Webbased applications also provide an
additional security by removing the need for the user to have access to the data and back end
servers. 4) Cost Effective. Webbased applications can considerably lower the costs because of
reduced support and maintenance, lower requirements on the end user system and simplified
plans.

Swartz (2007) gave emphasis that almost all institutions depend on data. Consequently,
we are witnessing a profound change in the way in which institutions perceive, understand, and
manage their information. There is now a clear recognition of the value of information, the
creation of new information, the retrieval of existing information, the storage of important
information, and the disposal of redundant information. There is also greater awareness of the
cost of acquiring bad, incomplete, or inaccurate information.

LOCAL LITERATURE/STUDY
Villafania (2007) reported that in the Philippines, the Commission on Higher Education
(CHED) has initiated programs to secure academic records. CHED and the National Printing
Office (NPO) have signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on the Securitization of
Academic Records for college and university graduates beginning school year 2007. The move is
part of CHEDs drive to stop the use of fake diplomas and school records. CHED former
chairman Carlito Puno said the MOA aims to secure authenticity of academic records such as
diplomas, transcript of records and special orders from all colleges and universities in the
Philippines. Thus, protect the image and integrity of Filipino College students to potential
employers both locally and internationally. Puno emphasized further that the MOA would boost
the competitive edge of the graduates in the labor market for it will ensure the integrity of
credentials of the graduates while protecting the reputation of higher institutions of learning.
AISIS Online (2006) posted a precise definition of Ateneo Integrated Student Information
System (AISIS) serves as the portal for Ateneo students, faculty and staff. Through the AISIS
Online officially enrolled Ateneo students may view pertinent school information including their
Individual Program of Study (IPS), grades, class schedules and the like. Students may also
eventually enlist using AISIS Online. Ateneo faculty and staff with access to AISIS, on the other
hand, may submit grades and access their class schedules from outside the campus.
Marrero (2009) in his study entitled Student Information System for the University of
the Cordilleras stressed that the concept of Information Systems (IS) emerged in the early
1960s. More often, when information system is defined, the field Information Science is always
associated, IS is an academic field that deals with the generation, collection, organization,
storage, retrieval, and dissemination of recorded knowledge. Furthermore, it is a collection of
related components designed to support operations, management, and decision making in an

organization. Generally, IS is supposed to inform people. Information System supports people or


users in making intelligent decisions based upon the information derived from reliable data.

RESEARCH DESIGN
The descriptive survey method was used in this research. This was done to obtain the
needed information, such as the respondents profile and the. Results of this study led the
researchers to propose an e-classroom training program for particular teachers to enhance their
knowledge, skills, and attitude in teaching their own specific subject.

RESEARCH LOCALE
The study was conducted to Selected Teacher is located in LucenaCity such
selected teacher in West 3 Elementary School at Ibabang Iyam, East 1 Elementary School at
Marketview, Zaballero Elementary School and East 8 Elementary at Ibabang Dupay Red-V The
current school principal in West 3 Elementary is Mrs. Melanie the total of 28 faculty teachers the
available respondents are only 10 respondents. East 1 Elementary School has the total of 46
faculty teachers with 15 respondents available. In Zaballero Elementary has 35 faculty teachers
here is 12 respondents available. Then in East 8 Elementary School has the total of 38 faculty
teachers with the available respondents are 13. The Total respondents in my research study are
50.
POPULATION SAMPLING
Selected teachers in Lucena were part of the survey to ensure that everyone is
represented. All of the respondents, which composed of twenty-eight (28) teachers, were given
the survey form.
RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

A letter of request for this study was prepared by the researchers and was subjected to the
approval of the subject professor. The researchers sought the approval of the school principal of
the selected teacher in Lucena to conduct this study.
The instrument used in this research was a questionnaire divided into four parts:
respondents demographic profile, level of knowledge, level of skills, level of attitude in utilizing
learner information system using e-classroom.and significant difference of level of knowledge,
level of skills, and level of attitude in utilizing e-classroom when they are grouped according to
demographic profile. The survey was self-devised and was face-validated and content-validated
by our advanced statistics adviser during a series of class meeting. Changes and other
suggestions for the improvement of the survey form were acknowledged.

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE


The questionnaire, upon the approval of our subject professor as well as the principal of
the Selected Teacher in Lucena, was distributed to all teachers of the a foresaid school. There is
on-going training for the ICT coordinator, school principal and teachers in Lucena regarding
Learner Information System using the technology in order for them to be competent with the
system.

STATISTICAL DATA TREATMENT


The researcher utilized the standard statistical tools to summarize, analyze and interpret
the collected data.
The following statistical tools were used to measure the variables in this study.

For the sub-problem number one, in determining the general profile of respondents, the
researchers used frequency-percentage distribution using the formula below:

To measure the difference in the results of the analysis of the two groups of respondent
for the sub-problem number three, the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and t-test was used.
Before applying the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and t-test, the simple mean and standard
deviation were computed.

e researchers used the frequency- percentage distribution to compute the general profile of
respondents. The demographic information of respondents like age and sex serves as the guide if
any of this has a direct influence regarding on the significant difference in the responses of the
group of respondents about the Knowledge, Skills and Attitude of Selected Teacher in Lucena
on Learner Information System (LIS) in using E-classroom.

In figure 2, based from the data that has been gathered when 50 respondents were divided
as to their age, the rank with the highest percentage of 46 percent was the age 36-50, followed
by the 21-35 with 36 percent and the age rank of 51 and above obtained lowest percentage of
18 percent.
Based on the data shown, the researcher imply that 36-50 age rank mostly the selected
teacher in Lucena are the respondents.

As shown in figure 3, the distribution of respondents as to sex is not the same, the female
respondents had a highest percentage of 93 percent while the male respondents had 7percent
which means female dominated.
Based on the figure above, it shows that female teachers dominated the population in
Selected teacher in Lucena. There are few male teachers.

Table 1 presents the assessment made by the respondents regarding the level of
knowledge on Learner Information System of the Selected teacher in Lucena using e-classroom.
The level which obtained the highest percentage of 50% is the level with verbal description of
Fairly Knowledgeable who got 70-79% in the survey. While the level of knowledge which
Very Knowledgeable is obtained the lowest percentage of 10%.

Based on the data above the researchers imply that teachers are not knowledgeable on
Learner Information System and few are fairly knowledgeable in using e-classroom.

Based on the assessment made by the respondents as to level of skills on Learner


Information System (LIS) in using e-classroom, the indicator number two which is I can
properly log-in to the Learner Information System

(LIS) obtained

arithmetic mean of 3.57 with verbal description of Highly Evident. While the item number six
which indicates I can un-enroll or remove a learner in a class and I can un-enroll or remove
a learner in a class obtained the lowest WAM of 2.89 with verbal description of Evident.
According to Becker, (2001) mostly, computers provided are being used in the school
offices for managing and organizing files as well as for typing reports and other paper works. In
the vent that teachers are not users of computers, they lack the skills in computer operation.

Information System of the Selected Teacher in Lucena using e-classroom, the indicator number
two which is LIS using e--classroom saves times and effort obtained highest weighted
arithmetic mean of 3.43 with verbal description of Highly Evident. While the item number
seven which indicates "LIS using e--classroom enhances school head & school advisers
