Dance Reflection
Based on the interview I did with an African student name Abdi; he was positive about
being different living in the U.S. There are stereotypes that people sort you in based on your skin
color, appearance, your religion, your accent etc. and often it is not true. I learned from him that
despite of being judged by the society, you dont have to change to fit in, you can be yourself and
happy. Being different myself, I came from a third world country if you will, life was hard,
opportunity was limited. Here, when I wake up, I am not worried about food for break, lunch or
dinner, this is also one thing that Adbi told me. It is a blast to live here in America is what Abdi
thinks, and I agree to that. There are more opportunities for you, for education and finding a
good job. Also for people with religion, you can freely practice as your will. One thing that
surprised me and changed the I see the world a little bit. I didnt know that Muslim is widely
spread in Africa, I always thought its Christianity. Abdi told me that from where he from people
are one hundred percent Muslim. That did change my assumption, also Africa countries are
changing, from where he lives there is no war like in Rwanda, so that is a good thing. In
conclusion being different doesnt mean bad it can be a good thing, the culture, dance, food and
costumes; people embrace all cultures, especially the foods.
