Language Arts:

In Language Arts, we continue to enjoy listening and

reading daily stories. We have been practicing many reading
strategies to help us read unknown words (sound it out, look
at the picture, skip it and come back to it).
In writing, we are now focusing on beginning story writing.
We are learning that every story has a beginning, middle and
ending. Additionally, students are learning to look at book
covers, which give readers information on the story.
Recently, students did a fantastic job, creating titles, and
illustrating the cover of a story. During our daily writing
period, the students are continuing to work on sounding out
words, on their own first, before they ask for help. Students
are doing a great job sharing their daily writing!
Our Word Wall program continues to grow! When reading
word wall words, it is expected that students master the
ability to read the words quickly and efficiently. Students are
expected to write the words correctly during daily writing.
Remember that reading aloud to your child for 10 minutes a
day helps them to develop important comprehension skills,

Math:

Our new math unit will focus on addition and

subtraction. The grade ones will be focusing on
developing on understanding addition and
subtraction using concrete materials. They will
also consider a variety of ways to solve adding and
subtracting number stories.
You can help at home by having your child solve
real life addition and subtraction problems. For
example, you can ask your child to help me set the
table or ask them how many forks and knives all
together.

Science:
Our Current topic this month is Building Things.
The students will be conducting many experiences
that involve building different structures. This is a
reminder that we will be having a Building
Workshop on December 8th. Thank you to all the

Religion:
Now that we have entered the season
of Advent, our activities will center
around preparing our hearts for Baby
Jesus birthday. Please have your child
extend this at home by completing
his/her Advent Tree activities on a daily
basis. It is very important this time of
year, to slow down and focus on how
important the birth of Baby Jesus is!
