Personal Essay
When I think of the word nice I think of the meaning that deals with being polite,
caring, or generous. There are many different meanings of the word nice but this is the
meaning that expresses me the most. You can be nice by giving back to the poor, holding
the door for others, complimenting someone, or simply asking someone how they are. I
believe that I am an all around nice person. Many people say that I am. I give credit to
my family. They have helped raise me into the girl I am today, and this is one of the main
reasons why I think I am a nice person. Compared to other people I have lived a well off
life and I really have nothing to complain or be mad about.
Being nice can get you a very long way. If you have this character trait you get
certain things you want out of life just for demonstrating this characteristic. People I have
encountered do have this character trait and I do think that everyone is capable of being
this way.
Most people would say this is the American way of going about life. People can
say, oh he is not nice or she is not nice but I honestly think everyone is. God made
everyone in the image of himself, so therefore everyone is deep down inside. If God
himself were not nice, I would say that everyone doesnt have the ability to be nice but
since he was, I truly believe that everyone is capable of being nice.

Jackson 2
Being nice for me is how I go about life. I know that if I am rude or mean to
someone they will treat me the same way, and this is not how I want to go about living
my life. All I really want out of life is to gain happiness and I know that if I am nice and
respectful to others I could get the ultimate reward of happiness in return.

Educational Essay
Many words through out the English language have changed a lot over the years.
Some people do not know that the most common words once meant something else. For
example, the word nice. Most people in this day and age go by the word nice as meaning,
to be (excessively) nice or polite to (someone) or to perform well; to make (more)
desirable, to improve.(nice,v.) But before this decade it had other definitions.
The origin of the verb nice was created in England, and then changed/transformed
and the etymology of nice is an adjective. In the 1300s-1400s the word nice meant A
foolish or simple person; a fool(nice, n.). Around the 1400s-1700s the word meant
rare or wicked. Some English words do have different meanings in other places around
the world. This word has greatly changed over the years and the definition of the word
nice is totally different than the definition that we use today in our day and age.
This comes to show that most common words that we use once had a different
meaning at some point. We as U.S citizens should be educated as to where the words we
use come from and the different meanings that the words used to have. This way we can
help our youth and ourselves become interested in learning new words and become more
educated as a whole.

The help
On the movie poster the The Help (2011), which was directed by Tate Taylor
gives off a historic prospective based on the scenery and the way the women are dressed
on the poster. When looking at the poster I can tell that the movie is going to give a
helpful and educational message to young viewers. On the top of the movie poster it
states, Change begins with a whisper, this signifies that a form of change within the
characters will happen in the movie. The colorful movie poster The Help, shows four
women of different racial groups. Two of the women are of color and the other two are
white. There will be many changes of race views occurring in this movie.
The Helps movie poster uses two unique colors. The two unique colors that they
use are yellow and purple. On the color wheel, yellow and purple are on completely
opposite sides of each other. This correlates to the movie poster and the four women. The
four women are not standing or sitting next to each other. The two black women are
separated from the two white women. Also, yellow and purple do not mix well if you
blend them together. The director of this movie might be trying to show us viewers, the
racial divide between black and white people and this is known as racism. Back then
black and whites were separated and they really did not mix well with each other because
of the rules and regulations that were set in place.

Jackson 6
Besides the unique colors that are evident on the poster the maker of this poster
shows the four women separated from each other. The two white women look like they
could be wealthier than the two black women on the poster because of how they are
dressed. The black women look lower class and it seems as though that they are working
for the two white women sitting on the bench based on how they are dressed as well. The
white women are dressed in beautiful dresses and the black women are dressed in maids
uniform. This shows the differences in status between the four women.
Although there are signs of racial discrepancies identified within this poster it
looks like change will be occurring. The two white women sitting on the bench do look
wealthy and superior but one of the women sitting on the bench looks like she is innocent
and could be a sweet young lady. She a slouched over on the bench and it looks like she
has a little grinch on her face. The other women sitting on the bench looks stuck up and
looks like she does not care about much. On the poster she is starring down at her
fingernails. This shows that she only cares about herself and her well-being. The younger
white lady could be the face behind the racial change that occurs in the movie. It seems as
though she has more respect for the black race than the other older women next to her.
This may be because she doesnt know anything about racism around that time and she
may be blinded towards this issue because of her surroundings.
In conclusion, the movie poster of The Help (2011), gives us a preview of what
will happen within this movie. The main message that this poster is trying to convey is
that there will be many racial changes occurring in the movie. The approach may start off
as little but over time the change will become big. It will take a lot of work because of

Jackson 7
this big racial divide but the change will happen. Based of this interesting and meaningful
poster this movie will be an eye-opener and it will send a message out to the viewers.

Abortion
Abortion is a global re occurring problem across the world. Many people do not
know that abortion is not just a U.S problem but also a problem in different countries.
Governments are trying to take control of women and take the decision from them, thus
creating protests in different parts of the world. Women should have complete control
over their bodies. The government should not have any control over the women.
Therefore, Pro-choice should be accepted across the world so women could have full
control over what they choose to do with their child. Rules, in terms of health care should
be set in place to give women the freedom of choice to do what they want to do with the
child in their body. Womens reproductive rights need to be protected in the U.S and
across the world.
Currently in the United States we have two parties running for president. The
republican party (Donald Trump) and the democratic party (Hillary Clinton). In the most
recent debate for candidacy Donald Trump has told us that he does not support prochoice at all. In fact, according to TCA regional news, Trump's lurid description of
ripping babies from the womb in the ninth month of pregnancy was immediately
debunked by OB-GYNs as something that simply doesn't happen (Trump Only
Loudest). By him saying this it seems as though he doesnt really know what he is talking

Jackson 9
about on the topic of abortion and he is not the solution to the problem. The republicans
have had a long history with women and is formerly known as the republican war on
women. Donald Trump believes that women shouldnt be allowed to have abortions and
that if they do, they should be punished for it. Chris Matthews did an interview with
Donald Trump on abortion and how he feels about the issue. Matthews asked Trump Do
you believe in punishment for abortion, yes or no as a principle? And Trump replied
saying The answer is that there has to be some form of punishment (Watch the Full
Exchange). This shows that Donald Trump and the republican party never supported prochoice and never really took interest in womens views. We are in a day in age that
womens rights matter in this country and they should freely be able to make the choice
to have their baby or not. We do not know the circumstances of how the women got
pregnant whether it was unexpected or by rape. Also, women could have serious health
problems if they continue to go on with the pregnancy or not.
Hillary Clinton on the other hand is with the democratic party. She is a great
advocate for womens views and rights. Clinton does believe in pro-choice for women
and that women should not have to be forced to have their baby or not. During the
presidential debates Clinton and Trump were asked a series of questions about different
topics and one of them included abortion. According to Gerald Seib, they responded to
the question about abortion by saying
Similarly, on abortion, they spoke to the base of their parties, she delivering a
passionate argument for abortion rights and he asserting he would be happy with a
Supreme Court decision that overturns the Roe v. Wade decision establishing
abortion rights, returning the issue to the states. (Seib)

Jackson 10
This shows that Clinton does support abortion rights for women and Trump does not. If
the president ruling our country cant come to mind for abortion rights for woman, then it
will create dysfunctions within our country. Trump wants to overturn the Roe v. Wade
decision which is
abortions lie within a pregnant woman's "zone of privacy," the abortion
decision "and its effectuation" are fundamental rights that are protected by
the Constitution from regulation by the states, so laws regulating abortion
must be sufficiently important. (McBride)
If Trump over turns this decision, then more protests will be occurring and more woman
would feel as though theyre not being treated fairly. The Roe v. Wade case was a great
decision that should not be affected in any way. It helps women to be able to do what
they want if they get pregnant and to help show what options they have. Some women
have had children through rape, if they have the child it could greatly affect their health,
or the baby could suffer from defects. No matter what, this is right should not be taken
away from them by anyone. If Clinton becomes president she would greatly help with the
abortion rights and supporting this landmark decision. Trump on the other hand would
create chaos if he tried to get the supreme court to overturn this decision. All people want
in the world is peace and equality and if trump is elected chances of this happening is
very little. This is an also a good step in bettering our country and progressing our
country in the right way.
The Abortion problem also occurs in different countries around the world that a
lot of U.S citizens are not aware of. Governments in these different countries have their
own laws on the issue and what they believe to be right. They have full control over the

Jackson 11
women aborting their baby and this has caused many protests and riots. For example,
around October of this year Polish women did not go to work because of the law that
bans abortion in their country. It seems that the polish women have it much worse than
women in America. According to economist newspaper, The penalty for terminating a
pregnancy illegally would be extended from two years in prison to five (Polish Women
Skip Work). This is really sad to read about because this should not be happening at all.
Women in different countries should be able to do what they want with their baby even if
they choose to abort their baby in a different country. They should not be punished by
being imprisoned or receive any form of punishment for the abortion. The abortion is not
affecting anyone but the women choosing to abort. Therefore, there should be some new
rules set in place in their government that helps to abolish the rules that are set in place
now. The current rules now in Poland are obviously causing protests because of how bad
the rules are. Peace will not come about until the rules are changed and women dont feel
like they are threatened by the government. These types of rules are not just affecting
women in Poland but also women around the world.
In all, women should be able to have the freedom of choice to choose abortion.
The government should not have any say regarding this issue. The issue of abortion
should be between the mother and possibly the spouse. The more the government tries to
take control over abortion the more it will stay a problem. Governments of different
countries should try a new approach to solving this problem and instead of just trying to
take control. They could possibly take votes on what people believe is a better solution to
abortion than the one now. If womens voices are heard on this problem than it could

Jackson 12
better help in being resolved. This is what should happen to better our world and help to
create peace.
