Landscape Analysis Reflective Essay

For the Landscape Analysis my group conducted primary research for the following three
restaurants, L&Js, Taco Tote and Chuihuas. We visited and dined at all three restaurants in
order to analyze a few of their multiliteracies, such as their ambience, how they presented the
food, and service. We also focused on their websites and analyzed them through their choice of
color, alignment, font and many other attributes. All three restaurants had very different themes,
and conveyed different ethos and pathos. Then, we assessed and compared all three restaurants in
order to find new alternatives for improvement and a wider reach. We successfully accomplished
the purpose of this assignment by taking into consideration the target market they were looking
to reach and their respective goals.
As a team we experienced some difficulties in coordinating the writing of the paper. With
different visions and ideas, therefore, making it difficult to come together as one in order to
accomplish the assignments purpose. I also believe that some miscommunication occurred as we
figured out our roles and input in the group. Although we lacked group dynamic, I hope to take
away from this experience the ability to adapt and work despite the circumstances. I was also
reminded of the importance of being verbal and communicative with my team members while
keeping in mind all of our bias and constraints. Between drafts we re-directed our paper by
understanding who our audience was, which was L&J. Keeping in mind our base restaurant, we
compared and analyzed elements that they were successfully utilizing and also looked for
improvements and advice we would give to implement.
Our revision process was effective but very short. I believe it could have been improved
by a visit to the writing center. Working in a group, we were able to proofread each others work

and help each other remain in topic. The writing center could have served as an extra, and far
more experienced pair of eyes, taking our paper one step further.
Through the Landscape Analysis project, I was able to better understand the
conventionalized communication practices that take place in different communities, and was able
to find new alternatives that as a group, we saw a specific community was lacking. I was also
able to experience the importance of effective communication when working in a group setting.
As I graduate and enter the workforce, being a able to work in a team is essential for my future,
and through this assignment I was able to work up some dos and donts that must happen when
working collectively.
