The alleged New Jersey and New York City bomber, Ahmad Khan Rahimi, has been
charged separately in New York and New Jersey. In New York, he has been charged under an
eight count indictment and a 30 count state indictment in Union County, New Jersey. Rahimi
recently made his first appearance in court following the attacks in September. Rahimi is still
recovering from gunshot wounds and is expected to be arraigned on the New York indictment at
1 PM today.

Throughout New Jersey, there has been scams of placing electronic devices on cash
machines to obtain PINs and other sensitive bank information. A dozen men have been charged
for their roles in the operation. The men would use card reading devices and pinhole camera on
ATMs to obtain the information from bank cards. The main banks affected were Bank of
America and PNC bank. Between March 2015 and July, more than 428-THOUSAND
DOLLARS was taken from accounts of the two bank. Each men will be charged on 1 count of
conspiracy to commit bank fraud.

In National News
There has been an increase in the number of people signing up for health insurance
through HealthCare.gov. More than ONE- MILLION people signed up for the 2017 coverage,
with more than 300-THOUSAND signing up a few days after the election. It is known that one
of President-Elect Donald Trump plan is to repeal Obamacare. With many unsure of the future
for Obamacare, it was surprising the number of people who enrolled. President-Elect Trump has
recently stated that he would keep certain features of the law, including the one that gives access
to insurance for people with preexisting conditions. However, major insurers have stop offering
through the marketplace in certain areas of the country, which has increased premiums.
Reasoning is because the federal government has not paid enough to insurers to offset financial
losses under the Affordable Care Act.

Students throughout the country have urged their university to become sanctuaries for
undocumented students. Throughout the nation there have been protest and walkouts in
demonstration of having campuses become protection for students and their families. One of
President-Elect Trumps main campaign promise was to enforce the immigration laws. He plans
to deport undocumented immigrants and many students who are undocumented and have
undocumented parents will be affected. It is not known the number of college students who are
undocumented but many are protected under Obamas Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival
initiative (DACA). However, it is unclear how the federal government, under the new
administration, will use this information. With over 700- THOUSAND names in the database,
many students and families are left anxious with uncertainty.

In International News
The European Union (EU) have revealed plans of a new system of security checks. The
system is being implemented to crack down on extremists entering into European countries.
Travelers will have to pay 5 EUROS ($5.36) and fill out an online form to gain clearance to
travel in the 26 I.D. European areas. Most people should have no problem with the system, as
their information will be cross referenced in an automated system and approved immediately.
The aim is to identify who may be a security threat or a health risk. This new system is
similar to the United States travel authorization system which was implemented after the
September 11 attacks.

Mexicos foreign ministry has ensured Mexican immigrants in the United States that they
would offer more protection and support, in the aftermath of Donald Trump becoming
president. The ministry assured Mexican immigrants to stay calm and highlighted an 11point plan designed to help Mexicans get accurate information on immigration policies.
Within this plan is a 24- hour toll free consular hotline offered by the Mexican Embassy in
Washington, along with other expansion services. Immigrants in America have been worried
about the possibility of accelerated deportation and the Mexicos foreign ministry aims to
help its people in these uncertain times.
