Tutankhamuns tomb

Howard Carter (be) born in London on May 9, 1874. He (go) to


Egypt when he was still only seventeen. He was (hire)to copy wall paintings
and inscriptions. In January 1892, he (start) doing archaeological work.
At the beginning of 1900 Howard Carter (become) Chief Inspector of
Antiquities to the Egyptian Government .Then his professional career was in crisis for
some years until his luck changed. George Edward Stanhope Molyneux Herbert, a rich
English man who (become) interested in Egyptian antiquities,
.(decide) to pay some archaeological work. The cooperation between them
finally ended in the greatest discovery in Egyptian archaeology: The tomb of the pharaon
Tutankhamun!
In 1914 he (obtain) permission for excavating in the Valley of the Kings. The
valley stands on the west bank of the Nile, opposite Thebes .The Valley (be)
used for primary burials from approximately 1539 BC to 1075 BC, and ..(contain) at
least 63 tombs.
The tomb of Tutankhamun (be) found on November 4, 1922. Very often when
a tomb was discovered it was empty or many objects (or the mummy!) were missing but
the entrance to the 4,000 year-old tomb was intact. The tomb was decorated with religious
texts and images. There (be) many valuable objects inside the tomb as well as
everyday life objects. One room alone (contain)171 objects and pieces of
furniture.
It (take) close to six years to record and preserve the thousands of valuable
artifacts that were found there.
