Dear John Doe,
Upon receiving your letter, it was necessary to respond as promptly as possible.
Your letter, along with your concerns have been heard and they are valued.
Although the agency appreciates your concerns, there is nothing that can be done
regarding this issue at this time, due to the potential threat of terrorist attacks
continuing to exist. The agency does not want to put the American public at risk.
Although the policy may violate some privacy laws, the government has the right to
overpower this constraint; if there is probable cause.
Following this letter, it seems like the perfect time to explain to you why this policy
of spying was created and why it is enforced. As you know, the nation was under
attack that horrible September 11th morning. Following those attacks, the president
wanted justice for our country. To ensure that the safety of American citizens was
upheld, there was no choice, but to implement an initiative that allowed the
National Security Agency(NSA) access to American civilians communications. In
doing so, this gives the government the ability to detect possible threats before
they become actual threats.
Although this may not be the resolution that you had envisioned, this is all that the
NSA can do at this time for you. Thank you for reaching out to the agency and
voicing your concerns. Please keep in mind, that there is a reason for every rule and
every law that is created. Keeping America and its civilians safe is the number one
priority and it will always be.
Sincerely,

Nicholas Russo
Information Security Director
