Natives or Migrants?
To those living outside of the United States, it may seem like the grass is greener on this
part of the world. Coincidentally, Americans think the opposite, they believe everywhere outside
of the U.S. is underprivileged and everyone there is unhappy. Individuals migrate to different
areas for different reasons but mostly brighter futures for not only themselves but their loved
ones. In Enrique's Journey, Sonia Nazario claims 82% of mothers travel alone to the U.S. in
order to provide more for their children and families. Unfortunately, when individuals see
Hispanics in their communities they automatically think their presence is in vain. Little do they
realize everything these individuals endured to reach this part of the world. The immigration
policy has been a big issue during this 2016 presidential election. Regrettably for the Latino
population in the United States, Donald J. Trump won the presidency. His views on the
immigration policy or immigrants in general, is ignorant and many do not agree with his stance.
Nevertheless I still strongly believe that Hillary Clinton would have been the superior candidate
because her immigration policy wouldve been considerate, reasonable and well composed.
If Secretary Clinton were to have won the presidency her immigration reform would have
treated everyone with dignity, fixed the family visa backlog, upheld the rule of law, protected our
borders and national security, and wouldve brought millions of hardworking people into the
formal economy. "If Congress won't act, I'll defend President Obamas executive actions and
I'll go even further to keep families together. I'll end family detention, close private immigrant

detention centers, and help more eligible people become naturalized." says Hillary Clinton. Mr.
Trump views are the opposite, matter of fact he has made it quite clear on how little he thinks of
hispanics. He believes all Mexicans are rapists, murderers and because of this he wants to send
every immigrant back to their country. Unfortunately for this country Mr. Trump won and he will
be our next president. With that being said for those who voted against him are frightful for what
is to come under his rule. His ideology of a new immigration system is complete chaos. Mr.
Trump will end the catch-and-release system. Under his administration, anyone who illegally
crosses the border will be detained until they are removed out of our country. Which in my eyes
is completely unjust because those who made it to the U.S. endured a lot to get here. Sonia
Nazario stated about only of immigrants actually make it safely to the U.S. The rest are either
dead, incapacitated or in jail. I feel that Donalds perspective is a bit inconsiderate.
The American people support comprehensive immigration reform not just because its
the right thing to doand it isbut because they know it strengthens families, strengthen our
economy, and strengthens our country. explains Hillary Clinton. She promised to create cordial
immigrant laws and wants to focus resources on detaining and deporting those individuals who
pose a violent threat to public safety, and ensure refugees who seek asylum in the U.S. have a
fair chance to tell their stories. Unlike Mr. Trump who wants to build a wall on the Mexican
border. He said and I quote, Were going to do a wall. Were going to have a big, fat, beautiful
door on the wall. Were going to have people come in, but theyre going to come in legally.
Mexicos going to pay for the wall. He is living in denial, he does not see how vital hispanics
are, we work hard for what we want. Statistics show that we only take up 7.6% of the homeless
population. The other 92.4% are white or african american. I rarely ever see a Latino on the
streets begging for money, on the contrary I see them on the sidewalks working trying to sell

flowers, artwork, bread, anything to provide income for themselves and their families.
Individuals come to the United States for a brighter future. A World Bank study in 2000 found
that 42.5 percent of Mexicos 100 million people live on $2 or less a day. (Nazario 105)
Immigrants do not come in vain, rather they come here humbly and toil for their money.
Hillary Clinton's immigration reform wouldve been beneficial for this country. All
Hillary wanted was to have immigrants a fair chance to live in the U.S. She wanted to expand
access to affordable health care to all families, regardless of their status. She wanted to end
family detention for parents and children who arrived at our border in desperate situations and to
close private immigrant detention centers. She wanted to end three- and 10-year bars force
familiesespecially those whose members have different citizenship or immigration statuses
into a heartbreaking dilemma: remain in the shadows, or pursue a green card by leaving the
country and loved ones behind. She wanted to expand fee waivers to alleviate naturalization
costs, increase access to language programs to encourage English proficiency, and increase
outreach and education to help more people navigate the process. She was for the people,
regardless of the color of your skin. Mr. Trump simply wants an all white country, white
supremacy.
To wrap up this entire essay, I end with saying that I voted for Hillary Clinton not just
because of her views on Immigration but all of her views I totally agree with. Donald Trump
doesnt know a thing of what it is to struggle. He doesnt even have any political or military
experience. If were looking at who has the credentials to be president, itd be Hillary Clinton.
For one, she was the First Lady of the United States from 1993 to 2001, United States Senator
from New York from 2001 to 2009, and was the 67th United States Secretary of State from 2009
to 2013. As a result of this, she knows how the United States is run. Donald Trump has just

owned a couple of businesses not enough to run an entire country. Donald Trump has made a
fool of himself and his family during this entire election. The fact that he won shows how
arrogant our country is. He won by using racism against anyone who isnt white, demonizing
women, telling lies, and promoting violence. Millions of Americans are fearful of what is to
come. However, I feel now more than ever we need an action plan. Violence is not the answer,
itll just prove everything Donald has said about Hispanics true. Protesting is good, as long as its
peaceful. We have to accept the fact that this man in our elected President. We have to join forces
and wish him luck because what he does or say affects us all. I just hope for my future, he does a
decent job as president. Regardless, Im still with her.
