Main Parts of Desktop Computer

Power supply
Power Supply/PSU power supply unit, converts outlet power,
normally power available at our place is AC power and all
computer components works on DC power. Switched mode
power supply is used to convert AC power in to DC power, It also
control the voltages and currents for the various internal
components.

Internal Hard Disk

Hard Drive/Hard Disk the "long-term memory" of the computer, used
for persistent storage i.e. the things stored on it remains even when
the computer is powered down. The operating system, and all your
programs and data are stored here.

Motherboard
Motherboard/mainboard as the name indicates, this is the main component of the computer, everything else
connects to the motherboard. Processor/CPU central processing unit, the "brain" of the computer, most actual
computation takes place here.

Random access memory

RAM random access memory, the "short-term memory" of a computer.
RAM store any program temporarily and remove when program is closed.
When you open any program, it goes in to RAM because your CPU can get
it a lot faster from RAM, Data in RAM is lost when the computer is
powered off, thus necessitating a hard drive.

IDE Cable (PATA)

Parallel ATA (PATA), originally AT Attachment, is
an interface standard for
the
connection
of
storage devices such as hard disks, floppy drives,
and optical disc drives in computers.

Optical Disk Drive

Optical disc drive (ODD) is a disk drive that uses laser light or
electromagnetic waves within or near the visible light spectrum as
part of the process of reading or writing data to or from optical discs.
Some drives can only read from discs, but recent drives are
commonly both readers and recorders, also called burners or
writers. Compact discs, DVDs, and Blu-ray discs are common types
of optical media which can be read and recorded by such drives.
Optical drive is the generic name; drives are usually described as
"CD" "DVD", or "Blu-ray", followed by "drive", "writer", etc.

Video Graphics Card

Video Card/Graphics Card/GPU does processing relating to
video. Some motherboards have an onboard GPU built in
so you dont need (but may add) a separate video card.
Otherwise, you will need a video card. These plug into a slot
on the motherboard and provide a place to connect a
monitor to your computer.

Unit (CPU)

Sound Card

Network Interface Controller

A sound card (also known as an audio card) is an

internal computer expansion card that facilitates the input
and output of audio signals to and from a computer under
control of computer programs.

A network interface controller (NIC) (also known as a network

interface card, network adapter, LAN adapter and by similar terms)
is a computer hardware component that connects a computer to
a computer network.

Mouse
Mouse is a pointing device that functions by
detecting two-dimensional motion relative to
its supporting surface. Physically, a mouse
consists of an object held under one of the
user's hands, with one or more buttons.

MODEM
A modem (modulator-demodulator) is a device
that
modulates
an analog carrier
signal to
encode digital information, and also demodulates
such a carrier signal to decode the transmitted
information.
Keyboard is a typewriter-style device, which uses
an arrangement of buttons or keys, to act as
mechanical
levers or electronic switches.
Following the decline of punch cards and paper
tape, interaction via teleprinter-style keyboards
became the main input device for computers.

Keyboard

Monitor
A monitor or a display is an electronic visual
display for computers.
The
monitor
comprises the display device, circuitry and
an enclosure. The display device in modern
monitors is typically a thin film transistor
liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) thin panel,
while older monitors used a cathode ray
tube (CRT) about as deep as the screen size.

Central Processor Unit, is the hardware

within
a
computer that
carries
out
the instructions of a computer program by
performing the basic arithmetical, logical,
andinput/output operations of the system.

SATA Cable
Parallel ATA (PATA), originally AT
Attachment, is an
interface
standard for the connection of
storage devices
such
as hard
disks, floppy drives, and optical
disc drives in computers.
