INTRODUCTION
Fabric and foil membranes offer architects unique design opportunities.
The history of architecture depicts a clear effort to lessen the weight of
building materials. From the massive pyramids of Egypt to lighter Gothic
vaulting and eventually the modern architecture of the 20th century, we
now have even more materials than before (Goldsmith, np).

SUSTAINABILITY
Major components of a textile building envelope
system may be recycled
Separating textile components from coatings
makes it possible to recycle a wide range of
textiles
Re-use of raw materials to make new products
Steel and aluminum frames have a high recycling
index which enables them to be molten and
re-used
Reduced cost and energy consumption in
transporting
Lower cost in heating and cooling

Inherently hydrophobic
Laminated and unlaminated
Laminated membranes are made of PTFE laminated to a polypropylene
support for improved durability and easy handling. Chemically compatible
with strong acids. Can also be used to filter aqueous solutions when
prewetted with methanol.
Unlaminated membranes are compatible with stronger acids, aggressive
solvents and high temperatures. Ideal for applications that require hot
temperatures (Magna PTFE (Teflon) Membrane Filters - Thomas Scientific.(n.d.).
