Technical description
Approved applications
The 126 series explosion-protected electric tractors are designed for maximum productivity. Their maximum load capacity
is 6 tonnes, the maximum speed without a load is 17 km/h.

Cabin and controls

A low step height allows easy access to the cabin, reducing
operator fatigue and ensuring safe operation. The convenient
controls and the seat cushioning provide maximum comfort for
efficient operation.

The automotive-style arrangement of

the pedals, controls and steering wheel and
the electronic control ensure quiet driving.

Chassis
The chassis is designed for maximum strength and stiffness.
The low centre of gravity ensures outstanding driving performance, the compact size allows excellent manoeuvrability.

The traction motor and the electronics

are mounted well-protected in the chassis,
but easily accessible for servicing.

The battery is mounted between the

two axles. This ensures maximum tractor
stability and allows quick and easy removal.

CAUTION
If the LBC is disabled, a highly visible label with
the caution notice Without electric braking must
be affixed. Please contact authorised skilled personnel
(experts).

Power train

As standard equipment this tractor is provided with regenerative braking, which feeds the energy generated during braking
or turning back into the battery.

The powerful, separately-excited 3.2 kW

motor is mounted transversely on the drive
axle. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels
via a reduction gearbox.
The tractor is provided with a state-ofthe-art 24V or 48V electronic control system
providing infinitely-variable and controlled
traction as well as safe and precise driving.
The electronic control ensures efficient use of energy and a
longer shift for each battery charging cycle.

Steering
The easy operation and great responsiveness of the frontwheel steering reduces driver fatigue, while ensuring excellent
manoeuvrability of the tractor and generally simplifying the
handling of goods.

Brakes
The tractor has three independent braking systems:
Hydraulically-operated drum brakes on all three wheels.
Handbrake mechanically connected to the rear wheel drum
brakes.
LBC (Linde Brake Control) which stops the tractor electrically if the accelerator pedal is released.

10

Trailer coupling
The tractor can be equipped with various types of trailer couplings. A trailer coupling can be mounted on the front end .

126 804 2591.1201

The operating time of the truck is highly visible on the composite instrument with
hour meter and battery discharge indicator.
This allows cost-efficient planning of the
service intervals and protects the battery
from damage.

Description

Technical description
Operation

Wheels

The horn is air pressure operated and

is located on the left side of the console.

To prevent the build-up of static electricity, the tyres are electrically conductive.

Handbrake

Electrical system

The handbrake acts on the rear wheel drum brakes via a cable.
When the handbrake is applied, the electric starting power is
reduced with a microswitch.

The electrical system is mounted in

three flameproof enclosures behind the drivers seat.

Brush monitor
For the service life of the DC motors it is important to exchange
worn motor brushes in time. This renewal of the brushes is
indicated in the composite instrument.

Check the insulation resistance

126 804 2591.1201

Description

The red insulation monitor indicator light normally flashes every

5 seconds. If the flashing frequency changes (the red light
flashes at irregular intervals or is illuminated steadily), check
the insulation resistance.

Insulation resistance warning

If the flashing frequency changes, indicated by short/long
flashes of the red warning light (no longer a 5-second interval),
check the insulation resistance.

Insulation resistance fault

If a fault exists (red warning light is on continuously), travel
speed is reduced to 2 km/h and after 10 minutes the truck is shut
down completely.

Various temperature cut-outs are installed in the axle and electronic control
enclosure. If overheating occurs at any one
point, the tractor is stopped, ie driving is
disabled but steering is still available. The
temperature switches have a switching hysteresis of about 15 C. This means the
tractor can be operated again after the affected assembly has cooled by 15 C.

The battery is especially shock- and

vibrationproof and enclosed in a box with
increased safety. The battery, located under the battery cover, is an especially shockand vibrationproof type mounted in an increased-safety enclosure.
All switches and indicator lights are
sealed or manufactured as explosion-protected models.
The electric cables are firmly fastened
(clamped at least every 250 mm).
The enclosures for the electronic control and electric motor are flameproof.
If parts must be replaced, only genuine
Linde Ex parts approved for this type may
be used.

Composite instrument

Description

The composite instrument contains the following control elements and indicator elements:
NOTE
The composite instrument is explosion-protected, ie mounted in a flameproof enclosure.

Hour meter

Battery discharge indicator

Indicates the operating time of the truck in hours. It operates

only when the key switch is turned on, the emergency isolator
button pulled out and the seat switch activated.

Indicates the charging state of the battery when the key switch
is turned on and the emergency stop button is pulled out. It
reduces truck speed when the battery discharge reaches 80 %.

The hour meter serves as proof of the operating time of the truck
and for scheduling inspections and maintenance services.

The battery is fully charged when the right LED (10) is illuminated. As the battery discharges, the illuminated bar (10) moves
from right to left.

Battery discharge indicator

Hour meter (LCD display)

The flashing h (8) and flashing decimal point (9) show that the
hour meter is on.

Safety rules
The responsible persons, particularly
the truck operator (ie driver) and service
personnel, must be instructed in the rules
for the normal and proper use of industrial
trucks, the applicable national, EU or EEA
explosion safety regulations, as well with
those included in these operating instructions before working with or on the truck.
The operator (ie employer) must ensure that the driver has
understood all of the safety information. Please observe the
guidelines and safety rules therein, for example:
information on the operation of material handling trucks
rules for roadways and work areas
rights, duties and safety rules for the operator
operation in special areas
information related to starting, driving and braking
service and repair information
recurrent inspections, accident prevention check
disposal of greases, oil and batteries
remaining risks.

The operator (ie employer) or the responsible person must

ensure that the above the guidelines and safety rules applicable
for your truck are observed.

16

The explosion protection measures and

their implementation on the truck during
operation are required by law. They require
particular attention during all work with, in
and on the truck.
The operator (ie employer) must ensure that the employees are instructed in
the hazardous areas (explosion hazard zones
1 and 2), possible explosion hazards and
the selected protective measures, and that
the operating instructions required for safety
are observed. The instruction must be repeated at appropriate intervals.
The acceptance tests and certificates
for the truck, the pertinent laws, regulations and guidelines, and any possible additional requirements by the responsible
authorities indicate under which conditions
and where the truck may be operated, serviced and repaired.

DANGER
All inspection and maintenance work
must be done outside of hazardous areas,
and only by authorised skilled personnel
(experts) thoroughly familiar with the appropriate technical material and rules and
regulations.
The manufacturer recommends your authorised Linde dealer for this service.
Experts
Experts are specially skilled persons who have thorough knowledge and experience in servicing and testing industrial trucks
and being furthermore sufficiently familiar with the national
industrial safety and accident prevention regulations and all
further general technical rules and guidelines (DIN and ISO
standards, technical rules arising from EC directives or EEA
agreements), so that they can give a qualified judgement upon
the safe operating conditions of the truck.

Before commencing the inspection and

maintenance services, ensure that no explosion risk exists.

126 804 2591.1201

Beginning operation

Safety rules
Further protective measures are not
required after the elimination of the explosion hazard and a renewed formation of a
hazardous atmosphere during the repair is
excluded.

126 804 2591.1201

The operator (ie employer) or his representative must provide the technicians with
a work assignment (normally written) which
states work location, commencement, duration and the protective measures to be
taken against explosion.
In emergency situations when performing repairs where an explosion hazard exists from sparking, or the explosive hazard
can result from the repair work, appropriate
explosion protective measures must be taken.

Beginning operation
Work can only commence after the
operator or his representative have ensured
that protective measures are adequate and
effectively implemented. The effectiveness
of the protective measures must be checked
while the work is in progress. The operator
or his representative can only lift the protective measures after all work has been
completed and no further hazards exist.
Before resuming operation after repairs, ensure that the trucks explosion
protection required for normal operation is
effective again.

Before towing
Before transporting loads, check the drawbar pull and weight
specified in the data sheet or see the plate mounted on the back
of the tractor.
Do not exceed the rated drawbar pull of the tractor.

Guidelines for towing trailers

The maximum drawbar pull is the maximum force the tractor has
available to overcome the starting resistance of the towed load
(combined weight of tractor, trailers and load).
ATTENTION
When pulling loads behind the tractor, it should
be noted that under difficult operating conditions
(like downslopes, icy or slippery roadway) it is not the
drawbar pull of the pulling vehicle or the trailer load capacity which is important for determining the trailer load but
the possibility of safe braking.

36

ATTENTION
The tractor may not be used to tow rail vehicles or
to push any type of wagon. The tractor must be
operated in such a way that safe driving and braking of the
trailer train is ensured at all times.

If the hauling distance, for example, is only 60 m, the complete

cycle including return journey can be performed 10 times per
hour under the given conditions.

Operation

Transport with a load

Operation

Towing a trailer
DANGER
All trailers must conform to the explosion protection regulations.

Check that the width of the trailers ensures free passage en

route.

NOTE
Familiarise yourself with the braking system of the trailer
to be towed.

Check that the direction of travel is clear. Start slowly to take up

the slack in the trailer coupling before accelerating gently to
driving speed.

126 804 2591.1201

Make sure the trailer load is secure, stable and evenly distributed on the trailer and does not exceed the rated drawbar pull of
the tractor.

If necessary, adjust wing mirrors before driving.

Slow down in advance when approaching your destination to

brake the tractor and trailer gradually. A sudden stop can cause
the load to shift and the trailers to jack-knife.

Check the trailer steering to determine the type fitted. This is

especially important on long trains due to the cutting in effect
when cornering.

NOTE
A trailer train can not be backed up into position, so learn
to choose the correct position the first time.

NOTE
When driving on public roads be sure that all the plates/
signs required by traffic regulations are in place. Release
the trailer braking system and remove any chocks from the
trailer wheels.

DANGER
Never drive tractors on public roads unless they
conform to traffic regulations.

CAUTION
To prevent accidents, check that all adjustments
are properly engaged before operating the truck.
Do not operate the seat adjusting devices while operating
the truck.
Seat belts must be applied before operation of the truck.
After an accident, the seat belt must be renewed. In the
case of seat belts attached to the operator seat, the seat
and mounting of the seat must also be inspected by qualified personnel.
Nuts and bolts should be checked regularly for tightness.
A wobbling of the seat can indicate loose bolts or other
faults. If malfunctions in the operation of the seat are
detected (eg seat cushioning), contact authorised skilled
personnel (experts) immediately to eliminate the cause.
The manufacturer recommends your authorised Linde
dealer for this service. In case of non-observance, you may
put your health at risk and there is a higher risk of accidents.

Inspection and maintenance as required

Maintenance

Clean the truck

DANGER
All inspection and maintenance work
must be done outside of hazardous areas.
NOTE
The necessity of cleaning depends on the use of the truck.
If used with aggressive media such as salt water, fertiliser,
chemicals, cement, etc., clean the truck thoroughly after
every application.
Hot steam or intensive degreasing solutions should be
used with utmost care! The grease in the lubricated-for-life
bearings will dissolve and leak out. As regreasing is not
possible, the bearings will be damaged.

126 804 2591.1201

Change the brake fluid

DANGER
If moisture penetrates the motor, the explosion
protection must be opened in order to dry the
motor. Please contact authorised skilled personnel (experts) for this service.
The manufacturer recommends your authorised Linde
dealer for this service.

DANGER
All inspection and maintenance work must be
done outside hazardous areas and only by qualified authorised skilled personnel (experts) who are familiar
with all regulations.
The manufacturer recommends your authorised Linde
dealer for this service.

When cleaning with compressed air, first remove sticking dirt

with a cold cleaner. Clean the oil filler openings along with the
surrounding area and the grease nipples prior to lubrication.

CAUTION
For all services the truck must be placed on a level
surface, the wheels must be chocked, the key
removed and the battery plugs disconnected.

NOTE
If the truck is cleaned often, it must be lubricated more
frequently.

Depress the emergency isolator button.

- Disconnect the battery plugs.

DANGER
For safety reasons the front axle and the area of
the front axle of the truck should never be cleaned
with a high pressure cleaning device. Water could penetrate the flameproof enclosures, leading to the destruction of
the controller or other parts (motor). As a result, the
explosion protection is no longer ensured.
This may substantially reduce the braking action during
the subsequent first braking attempts.
ATTENTION
When washing with a cleaning device, do not
directly expose the flameproof enclosures, electrical system, electric motors and insulating material to
the water jet, cover them first.
When cleaning with compressed air, first remove sticking

Before measuring the insulation, first disconnect the insulation monitor.

126 804 2591.1201

Maintenance
Lubricate the steering

ATTENTION
For the service life of the DC motors it is important
to renew the worn motor brushes in time.

If used in clean and dry interior applications, truck servicing

every 500 service hours is sufficient as a rule. For mixed use
inside and outside, it is recommended that the lubrication
interval be halved.

NOTE
If the motor brushes must be changed, warning light (2) in
the composite instrument is illuminated.

In an environment with dust, dirt, water and possibly de-icing

salt or chemicals, weekly lubrication will extend the service life
of the bearings substantially.

DANGER
The explosion protection must be opened to
change the motor brushes. Please contact authorised skilled personnel (experts). The manufacturer
recommends your Linde dealer for this service.

NOTE
Preferably lubricate the bearings with less grease more
