Please
read
the
Coltman
Chamber
Music
Competition
eligibility
requirements
and
regulations
prior
to
completing
the
online
application.
Ensembles
will
immediately
be
disqualified
if
all
requirements
are
not
met.
The
competition
is
open
to
instrumental
only
ensembles
that
consist
of
3-6
musicians.
Eligibility
is
open
to
students
and
musicians
living
and/or
studying
in
the
United
States.
Ensembles
may
only
use
one
piano
for
the
competition.
Ensembles
will
not
be
allowed
practice
time
in
the
competition
rooms;
however,
there
will
be
pianos
in
each
warm-up
room
on
March
24-25.
Maximum
of
5-minute
total
set
up/tear
down
time
per
ensemble
in
competition
rooms.
Ensembles
must
have
a
coach
or
sponsor.
No
member
of
the
ensemble
may
function
as
a
coach/sponsor.
Individuals
may
enter/compete
in
one
or
two
ensembles
in
any
round,
including
the
pre-screening
round.
No
changes
in
personnel
or
repertoire
will
be
allowed
once
application
materials
are
received
by
competition
staff.
A
member
of
a
previous
prize-winning
ensemble
may
compete
only
if
the
majority
(or
half,
if
a
quartet
or
sextet)
of
the
ensemble
consists
of
new
personnel.
Division
and
age
regulations:
o Junior
Division
ensemble
must
be
an
average
age
of
18
or
under
on
3/24/17.
o Collegiate
Division
ensemble
must
be
an
average
age
of
18
to
30
on
3/24/17.
In
compliance
with
IRS
requirements,
each
member
of
a
winning
ensemble
(or
guardian
if
under
18)
must
provide
a
valid
U.S.
Social
Security
number
or
U.S.
Tax
ID
on
Saturday,
March
25,
2017.
Failure
to
do
so
will
disqualify
the
ensemble
and
cash
prizes
will
not
be
awarded.
Failure
to
complete
all
information
on
the
application
form
will
result
in
disqualification.
Competition
staff
will
communicate
with
your
ensembles
coach/sponsor
and
primary
ensemble
contact
via
e-mail.
Share
all
competition
information
with
all
ensemble
members.
Submission
of
application
materials
indicates
the
ensembles
full
intention
and
financial
capability
of
competing
in
the
Coltman
Chamber
Music
Competition.
Check-in
for
all
ensembles
will
be
Friday,
March
24,
2017
between
the
hours
of
5:30-8:00pm
at
Concordia
University.
o Practice
rooms
will
be
available
on
a
first
come,
first
served
basis.
o Practice
rooms
will
NOT
be
available
before
5:30pm.
Ensembles
invited
to
the
semi-final
round
will
be
notified
the
week
of
February
20,
2017
via
e-mail.
Junior
Division
ensemble
members
under
18
are
required
to
be
supervised
by
an
adult,
if
chosen
for
live
semi-final
&
final
rounds.
Any
combination
of
the
following
instruments
will
be
accepted:
Brass:
trumpet,
trombone,
horn,
euphonium,
tuba
Harp
and
Percussion
There
is
no
ramp
leading
up
to
the
stage
in
the
competition
rooms
for
the
Collegiate
Division
semi-final
round
and
all
final
rounds.
The
only
way
to
get
to
the
stage
is
by
stairs.
There
is
a
maximum
5-minute
total
set
up/tear
down
time
limit
in
competition
rooms.

APPLICATION
PROCESS
The
following
items
must
be
submitted
in
order
for
the
application
to
be
considered

will

No

PRE-SCREENING
VIDEO
AUDITION
ROUND
Junior
Division
Repertoire
requirements
o Ensembles
must
prepare
two
contrasting
selections
by
two
different
composers.
o Acceptable
selection
options:
1. Two
single
contrasting
movements
from
two
different
pieces
by
two
different
composers.
2. Two
single
movement
pieces
by
two
different
composers.
3. One
movement
of
a
piece
and
a
single
movement
piece
by
two
different
composers.
o The
two
contrasting
selections
together
should
have
a
maximum
of
15
minutes
total
playing
time.
o Selections
should
show
off
both
the
technical
ability
and
musical
style
of
the
ensemble.
o Ensembles
will
be
required
to
perform
both
selections
if
invited
to
the
live
rounds.
Video
submission
o Only
ONE
of
the
repertoire
selections,
performed
in
its
entirety,
is
required
for
the
video
submission.
Ensembles
may
pick
which
of
the
two
selections
to
submit.
The
pre-screening
panel
will
only
listen
to
the
one
selection
so
make
sure
to
choose
the
most
well
represented
selection
for
the
video
submission.
o One
ensemble
member
should
announce
the
pieces
full
title,
composer,
and
movement
(if
applicable)
for
the
piece
being
video
taped
before
playing.
o Note
that
ensembles
will
be
required
to
upload
scores
for
both
repertoire
selections,
not
just
the
one
for
the
video
submission.
o Ensembles
will
be
required
to
perform
both
submitted
repertoire
selections
if
invited
to
the
live
rounds.
o Video
must
show
all
ensemble
members
at
all
times.
o Picture
must
remain
stationary
(no
panning,
fade-in/fade-out
or
close-up
techniques).
o Ensemble
should
fill
the
screen
as
much
as
possible.

Division

Semi-final
and
final
rounds
will
take
place
at
Concordia
University
SEMI-FINAL
ROUND:
The
live
semi-final
rounds
for
both
the
Junior
and
Collegiate
Divisions
will
begin
at
10:00am
(subject
to
change).
Up
to
15
ensembles
(per
division)
may
be
invited
to
perform
in
the
semi-final
round.
What
ensembles
should
perform
for
the
semi-final
round
for
both
the
Junior
and
Collegiate
Divisions:
o Ensembles
will
perform
approximately
5
minutes
of
BOTH
submitted
repertoire
selections
(total
of
10
minutes).
o Ensembles
will
start
at
the
beginning
of
each
piece
and
should
know
the
5-minute
mark
of
where
to
stop.
Judges
will
stop
the
ensemble
as
needed.
Semi-final
judges
will
choose
3-5
ensembles
from
each
division
to
move
into
the
final
round.
Concert
attire
should
be
worn
for
this
event.
Semi-final
round
is
open
to
the
public.
Photography
is
not
allowed
in
the
competition
spaces.
Video
is
allowed
in
the
back
of
the
hall
only.
FINAL
ROUND:
AWARDS
CEREMONY
AND
RECEPTION:
Winners
for
each
division
will
be
announced
at
7:00pm
(subject
to
change)
on
Saturday,
March
25.
All
ensembles
that
compete
in
the
final
round
are
required
to
attend.
A
reception
provided
by
the
Austin
Chamber
Music
Center
will
take
place
after
the
awards
ceremony.
