INTRODUCCIN
Modo FLO: No realiza cargas profundas. Solo flotacin.

OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS
E N G L IS H
INTRODUCTION
The system of control and regulation of the LEO series introduces the use of the microcontroller in the management of a photovoltaic system. The elaborated programme
provides a control enabling it to adapt automatically to the different situations. This permits
the manual modification of its parameters for special installations, and memorises data
making know what was the installation evolution for a certain period of time.
The LEO-Series regulators introduce a new concept in the management of photovoltaic
systems: the microcontroller. Programming automatically adapts to the various situations
which may occur and allows manual modification of operation parameters. These regulators
incoporate a data memory which permits to know the evolution of the installation for a certain
period. The LEO-Series regulatores are designed to provide complete, reliable, flexible,
low-cost, very-low-consumption, digital regulation and control to medium and low-power
systems which do not require any additional instrumentation.
The most modern technologies are used in the design of each of its functions. The control
through microcontroller, the commutation of power lines with solid state relays and the use
of a PWM to make analogic display, permit a high reliability and performance.
The microcontroller features an intelligent algorithm control with which it goes learning the
installation characteristics and adapting to it optimising this way the regulation
management. For that it considers, together with the programmed voltage values, the most
important parameters like battery voltage , temperature, charge and discharge intensity,
accumulator capacity, installation historic
There is a possibility to change the regulation voltages, eventhough this is not advisable for
special installations (telecommunications, etc.) and with gauged measuring equipment This
way you can adequate the equipment operation to the particularities of special installations,
providing an optimal regulation.
They are available in a 12/24V version (the equipment automatically recognises the
appropriate operating voltage), and a version specifically designed for operation on 48V
operating voltage.
The operator can select two types of battery (See Programming).
PbA Mode: Makes the charge of the battery in two phases, deep charge and floating. It is the
advised mode for lead-acid batteries(liquid electrolyte). It is also convenient to use it for big sized
Gel batteries (gel electrolyte).
FLO Mode: Does not make deep charges. Only floating. Usually it is used for small or medium
Gel batteries (gel electrolyte) systems generally found in floating ( SOS posts, safety systems,
etc.).
They are available with blocking diode, that besides avoiding possible back-currents ;
prevent a short-circuit in the panels line could damage the regulator.
We will always call Handling Voltage as the result of calculations made by the Leo
mathematics algorithms. It always depends on the programmed voltage and can depend on
the temperature, intensities difference, accumulator capacity, installation historic, etc.
We will call Historic as the state of the charge reached in the accumulator in the previous
days, and which affects the rank of DFB floating band. See Final Charge and Floating.
Each light indicator that informs on the regulator state, gets intermittent so as to
reduce the equipment consumption.

Time
For small and medium Gel accumulators (Flo) or usual floating systems, as it is not
convenient to make deep charges, the final charge voltage is put equal to the
maximum floating voltage, it is to say:
Vc = Vf = 2.31 +(25-t) x 0.004
MU-12-L
03
E N G L IS H
In the first phase, the regulation system permits the input of charge current to the
accumulators without interruption till reaching the final voltage charge point. Once reached
this point, the regulation system stops the charge and the control system goes to the second
phase, floating. When the final voltage charge point is reached, the battery has reached a
charge level next to 90% of its capacity. The charge will be completed in the next phase.
During the floating phase, the current entering in the batteries is pulsating. In a
piece of time, when the driving relay between all the intensity in the panels reaches
the maximum floating voltage, it stops driving, consequently, if being floating we
push on A (panel intensity), we can see '00.0' Amperes on the display or the
maximum intensity of the panels for this radiation.
The consumption will be re-connected when the consumption restart voltage will be reached
and at the same time, the indicator will be deactivated. Independently from the mode (PbA o
FLO), the values are:

D ifference Int. => C /20

ALARMS SYSTEM
Alarm for Low Battery Voltage
The alarm for low battery voltage indicates a situation of discharge of the accumulator next
to 50% of its nominal capacity. Starting from this discharge level, the accumulator conditions
begin to be compromised as far as it concerns the discharge and maintenance of the output
voltage for high intensities.
This alarm depends on the value id the consumption unplugging voltage (it will always be
between 0.05 volt./elem. or above). If the battery voltage decreases lower than the alarm
value, during more than 20 seconds or 4 minutes (models 30A), the alarm is activated. This
is in order to avoid that an punctual and short overload , such as a motor start-up, activates
this alarm.
The result of this alarm operation is reflected in the following aspects:
The indicator which is in the drawing V lights intermittent.
An intermittent acoustic signal that can be silenced by pushing on
intermittent.
lights up intermittent.
The indicator deactivates when the accumulators reach a voltage value lower than the value
activating the alarm.
MU-12-L
05
E N G L IS H
The buzzer used in the acoustic alarm is low consumption, the fact that this alarm is
connected a long time not being important. The light indicator, the buzzer and the AUX2
output automatically deactivate when the consumption restart voltage is reached.
2. If the indicator of charge phase will not light intermittent, disconnect the battery, wait for
a seconds and re-connect the battery. Do that until the indicator of charge phase will
light intermittent.
3. Push the button V and confirm that the nominal Voltage is found or about to be found
(12, 24 or 48v).
4. Connect the consumption line. Connect some consumption and check that it starts.
5. Connect the Panels line. If it is during the day and it is in charge phase, push the button
A (panel intensity) and confirm that it is higher than 0.0 Amperes.
The equipment is already installed and working. Factory programme: Regulation Mode
PbA (Lead-Acid batteries with liquid electrolyte), approximate capacity 200 Ah.
If the accumulators capacity is very different, we have to change the capacity of the
accumulator programmed in the regulator so that the regulation criterions are correct. For
this, make the following sequence:
1. Push simultaneously A + V until the actual capacity of the battery appears
2. Push A to reduce or A to increase.
3. Push V to accept, record, or finish.
The equipment is already installed and working.
06
MU-12-L
CAUTION
- The unplugging of the battery with the panel and/or connected consumption can
cause grave damages to the equipment. As a standard we consider the following:
THE BATTERY IS THE FIRST TO BE CONNECTED AND THE LAST TO BE
UNPLUGGED.
- BEFORE MAKING EACH CONNECTION IT IS IMPORTANT TO CHECK THE
POLARITY. When you handle the panels connections, it is important to avoid a
possible short-circuit between the positive and negative of the panels line, as it
implies a short-circuit in the battery through the regulator. That would cause serious
damages to the equipment if there is no option of blocking diode.
- The installation of the equipment is usually made near to the accumulators. The
gases emitted are explosive when they reach a certain concentration, that is why it is
important that the place feature a correct ventilation and not to cause sparking nor
flames.

PROGRAMMING
The Leo regulators made by ATERSA have been submitted to various check
controls with equipment gauged by external laboratories ENAC. It is not advisable
to modify the adjustments permitting this menu if the equipment you use is not
enough gauged.

MU-12-L
You can directly modify 3 voltages values: Charge Final Voltage, Consumption Restart
Voltage, Consumption Unplugging Voltage.
Automatically, two more voltages are modified: High Voltage Alarm (it will be 0.03 volt./elem.
higher than Charge Final Voltage), Low Voltage Alarm (it will be 0.05 volt./elem. higher than
Consumption Unplugging Voltage).

If you want to modify the regulation voltages, you must take into account that:
1. This value will be for a C/50 at 25C, and that the internal algorithms of the programme
will be updated depending on the Cx and on the temperature.
2. For the 24 or 48 volts models, you must introduce the data divided into 2 or 4
respectively, as the voltage boards refer to 12 volts. Example: In 24 v. you want the
consumption restart voltage to be 25.4 v., then we must introduce 12.7, it is to say, 25.4/ 2.
Programming sequence:
1.Push simultaneously A + V until the actual capacity of the battery appears
2.Push A to reduce or A to increase.
3.Push V to accept or record.
Mode PbA:
Make the charge of the battery in two phases, deep charge and floating. It is the advised
mode for Lead-Acid batteries (liquid electrolyte). It is also convenient to use it for big sized
Gel batteries (gel electrolyte). For it:
1.Push simultaneously A + V + A until 'ALL' appears on the display.
2.Push simultaneously A + A until the message 'PbA' appears on the display.
q
Mode FLO:
Does not make deep charges. Only floating. Usually, small or medium Gel batteries are
used (gel electrolyte), or systems that are not used to being in floating (phone posts SOS,
security systems, etc.). For it:
1.Push simultaneously A + V + A until 'ALL' on the display.
2.Push simultaneously V + A until the message 'FLO' appears on the display.

EQUIPMENT PROTECTIONS
Short circuits
The consumption output features an electronic system of protection against short-circuits
with restart. When a short-circuit is detected, the consumption output is immediately
unplugged.
The regulator intends to restart the consumption output by intervals of more or less 1
second. Once the short-circuit disappear, the user disposes again, automatically, of energy.
To protect the equipment from short-circuits in the panels line (charge), it is
necessary to include the option of blocking diode.
Over-voltages
In a photovoltaic system over-voltage peaks can occur due to many reasons, the most
frequent are those induced during atmospheric storms. The equipment features protection
against over-voltage in the panel lines, battery and consumption.
This kind of protection permits to absorb a certain level of induced over-voltages, the
protection against lightning drops directly on the installation is not guaranteed.
Overload
The equipment can support overloads of 100% during short periods of time.
The protection against short-circuits does not include the overload protection. To
dispose of protection against long overloads, it is necessary to use a
magnetothermic in the consumption output.
Polarity Inversion
The equipment permits the polarity inversion in the battery and consumption connections.
It admits polarity inversion in the panels line only with the model featuring blocking diode.
There are erroneous situations, which are not polarity inversions, and that can
cause damages to the equipment:
Connect battery on the panel terminals.
Unplug the battery when the panels and consumption are connected.
Connection of a battery positive and negative on two positives or two negatives.
MU-12-L
15
E N G L IS H
The photovoltaic installation is isolated from the ground, that is why this installation does not
increase the risk of lightning drop.
WARRANTY
The equipment has a TWO YEARS warranty against all defects of manufacturing, included
corresponding parts and manual labour.
The warranty will not be applied in the following cases:
Damages caused by incorrect use of the equipment.
Constant use of charges featuring higher powers than the maximum nominal.
Use in non adequate environments (see paragraph Situation).
Equipment presenting blows, dismantled, or repaired in a non authorised technical department.
Atmospheric discharges, accidents, water , fire and other circumstances out of control of the
manufacturer.
The warranty does not include costs derived from the periodic revisions, maintenance and
transports of staff and of the inverter.
The manufacturer is not responsible for damages to persons or costs that could be derived
from incorrect use of this product.
To obtain warranty service you will have to inform the seller, and in case you could not
contact him, directly contact the factory.
Due to the fact that ATERSA is always bettering its products, the information
contained in this edition could be modified with no previous advising.

LEO 1
INTRODUCTION

Vc =2.52 + (25-t) x 0.004 (volt./lm)
Vc =2.50 + (25-t) x 0.004 (volt./lm)
Vc =2.43 +(25-t) x 0.004 (volt./lm)
Vc =2.41 +(25-t) x 0.004 (volt./lm)
Vf =2.31 +(25-t) x 0.004 (volt./lm)

MU-12-L
15
F R A N A IS
