Exit Interview and reflection

Andres Flores Fall 2016

What level (accomplished, proficient or developing) do you believe you have achieved at
this point with regard to each of the standards?
Standard 1: Demonstrates mastery of and pedagogical expertise in content
Accomplished: I believe that I am accomplished in this area due to my ability this semester to
take the various content areas and specialty classes and create lessons that were personal,
powerful, and pertinent to students of varying ages and skill levels. I believe that my ability to
tailor content to the specific circumstances and needs of students will continue to improve as I
student teach.
Standard 2: Establishes a safe, inclusive and respectable learning environment for a
diverse population of students.
Accomplished: This is an extremely important element of teaching for me. I believe that students
will be unable to learn if they are in an environment that feels unsafe. Navigating
a space in which students of all identities feel respected, intellectually challenged,
and safe is of the upmost importance to my practice as an educator.
Standard 3: Plans and delivers effective instruction and creates an environment that
facilitates learning for students
Proficient: I believe that this semester gave me good practice in striving to create a lessons that
were effective and engaging. However I still have much to learn and the challenge
of planning and executing five lessons a week while student teaching will provide
me with a challenging opportunity for growth.
Standard 4: Reflect on professional practice
Accomplished: Reflecting and growing is very important to me. I see my ability to take and
implement feedback as a vital part of my growth as a teacher and will continue to carefully
observe this practice while student teaching.
Standard 5: Demonstrates leadership
Accomplished: I am always excited to be able to learn and lead in the classroom. Leadership and
teaching are intertwined. This semester gave me the opportunity to further practice when to lead
and when to follow as a teacher.

For the standards with which you would rate yourself developing, what do you believe
you need to do to grow in this area?-I believe my ability to plan effective lessons will
continue to grow and improve as I continue teaching. The repetition of practice provided
by student teaching will allow be to full develop this aspect of my teaching and provide
opportunities for me to grow in this area.
What artifacts or evidence could you provide to show growth in developing standards?Emerging evidence of this improvement in planning can be seen in my data analysis and
my ability to reflect on my teaching and take student feedback to create more successful
lessons.
Describe two goals you have for your student teaching semester? How are these goals
aligned with the standards?-My first goal for student teaching is to independently plan
and execute an art unit that is personal, powerful, and pertinent to my students. This goal
is aligned with Standard 3 of the teaching standards. My second goal is to continue to

create a space that is safe and engaging for all students. I believe that this will be
specifically important in the art classroom and will allow for me to grow as a teacher and
person along with my students. This goal aligns with Standard 2 of the teacher standards.
