PeaceBOC : Peace Buddies Organizing for Change


Building the Capacities of Youth Leaders for Peacebuilding
Rotaract Leaders from Visayas and Mindanao
Rotary International District 3860
Capitalizing on the popularity of Facebook among Filipino youth,
PeaceBOC is an acronym that stands for Peace Buddies Organizing for
Change. PeaceBOC is a capacity building program for young people (15
to 35) to make them effective peacebuilders and communicators for
peace. It is also a mobile app that serves as a platform where young
peacebuilders can connect and collaborate with one another and
promote the culture of peace.

Background

Inspired by the traditional barkadahan or buddy culture, members of


the social network (online or offline) will call themselves peace
buddies or peace bok (bok is a Filipino slang for buddy).
This is part of the OPAPP Communications and Public Affairs Offices
capacity building program focusing on the youth, who are majority of
the countrys population, and tapping their potential for communicating
the message of peace, online and offline.

There will be 50 Rotaract leaders, composed of officers of 19 Rotaract


clubs in Mindanao.

Workshop Content

PeaceBOC is a capacity building workshop for young leaders to make


them effective peace communicators and peacebuilders. It will teach
them about violence, non-violent conflict resolution, gender and peace.
It will also provide them with creative tools in communicating messages
of peace, and connecting and collaborating with others for social
change.

Recommendations and
Other Expectations

The Rotary Club of Downtown Davao (RCDD) and the Chair of the New
Generation Committee of Rotary International District 3860 (covering
90 Rotary clubs in Visayas and Mindanao) asked the Office of the
Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) to help build the
capacities of their Rotaract youth leaders for communications and
peacebuilding.
OPAPP will cover the accommodation and meals of 50 participants, plus
8 working staff/members of the secretariat (four from OPAPP, four from
Rotary) as well as the cost of the venue of this event.
Rotary Club District 3860 and Rotaract District 3860 will shoulder the
transportation and other logistical needs of the participants.
