1-Tomatina
If you go to the Spanish town of Bunol in August, you should wear old
clothes. Don't wear good clothes because you may get covered with
tomato juice! The famers near Bunol grow a lot of tomatoes. In summer
there are too many tomatoes to sell. So the people of Bunol have an
unusual way of using them. Every year, one day in August is called
"Tomatina". In the morning the shopkeepers in Bunol put plastic over
their shops. They don't want their shops covered with tomato juice. a big
crowd of people comes into the town. Then trucks bring 125.000
kilograms of tomatoes. At eleven o'clock the fun starts. Suddenly
everyone starts throwing tomatoes at each other. People enjoy throwing
tomatoes. They also enjoy being hit by tomatoes! When tomatoes hit you,
you get covered with tomato juice. Soon everyone is red. And everyone is
having a lot of fun! Then at one o'clock every one stops throwing
tomatoes. The streets of Bunol are covered with tomato juice is gone.
Tomatina is finished for another year but next August the farmers will
have a lot of tomatoes again. And will be Tomatina time again.

How are you? I haven't heard from you for a long time. I
hope you're doing fine.
I have a two-week vacation from the beginning of next month. Would you
like to come and stay with me for all or part of it? There are lots of

3-Storms strike Stevenage

Last night severe storms struck the town of stevenage. They caused lots
of damage to homes and buildings. One man was going to bed when the
wind blew the roof off his house. ' I was just getting into bed. The wind
was very strong. There was a terrible noise. When I looked up I could see
the moon and the stars! My roof was missing!' Mr. smith said.
The storm caused lots of problems on the roads as well. A bus blew off a
bridge. Jenny Tan, the bus driver, said ' a strong wind spun my bus round
when it was on the bridge. Luckily there was no-one in the bus. I opened
the door and jumped to safety. I saw my bus crash and fall into the river
below. It was very frightening.
One lorry driver had a lucky escape when a tree blew over onto his lorry.
Mr. Bob Bell said, 'suddenly the wind uprooted a huge tree. It crashed
down onto the back of my lorry. It nearly hit my head. I am lucky to be
alive.
People who were injured during the storm were taken to the local
hospital. The doctors have been very busy. Dr. Lee commented, 'It was a
terrible night. there were many accidents for us to deal with. We worked
all through the night. I don't want another night like that!
