Reaches
Last class time to work on cover letters
Begin tabs:

Discuss the indents. Have them open up Solar System Case

Study from a few days ago.

Have students highlight the first paragraph. Demonstrate, and

have the students do as well, how the paragraph indentation
changes when they drag the top half of the hour glass
(indent), the bottom half (hanging indent), and both together.

Adjust the page margins (Page Layout Margins).

Close.

Have students add to their notes the four types of tabs. Tell
students there are two ways students can add tabs. They
need to create their own notes for how to create them.

Have students copy and paste into their file the Crime
Statistics file.

First, have students apply heading one and centre.

Bold the months and the first word on each of the next lines.

Have students apply bullets to the crimes committed.

Notes

Now, we are going to apply tabs. This time, we are going to

use the tab dialogue box launcher. Have them write this down
as a title on their notes.
We are going to be looking at tabs in inches. They can tell if
their ruler is in inches if the numbers 1-7 appear at the top. If
the number 1-19 appear, they are in cm. To change to inches
do the following: click the office button, then word options,
then advanced, scroll down to display, next to show
measurements in units of change it to inches. Make sure they
write this step down.
We are first going to set tabs for the bolded months. Have
students highlight them.
First, they need to be in the home tab and click the paragraph
dialogue box launcher.
Show how the different tabs show up on the bottom under
alignment. We can also pick different types of leaders. This is
the dots, dashes, or lines between the tabs. For this row, we
want our words to be centered and no leaders. In Tab Stop
Position, have students write 1 and change it to centre and
click set (not okay). Then 3, center and set and then 5, center
and set. When they have all 3 tabs set, they can hit okay.
Have students look on their ruler. There is now a tab set at
these places.
Have them put their cursor in front of January and press tab on
their keyboard. Repeat for February and March.
Now we will add tabs for the rest of the chart. Have them
highlight Murder to the end of Speeding 111. Set tabs for 1.2,
3.2, and 5.2 left aligned. Have them press tab to create the
chart.
Have students write their own notes on how to create tabs
using the paragraph dialogue box launcher with a partner.
Save and close.
Have students copy and paste Phone Lists into their file and
then open.
Make sure their page is set to centimetres. Have them
highlight name, position, and phone and open the dialogue
box launcher.
Have them set Center tabs for 5.5 and 10.5.
Have them highlight the rest of the information and set center
tabs for 5.5 and 10.5. This time have them choose tab leaders
of 2....
Now tell students we are going to create tabs using the ruler.
Have them scroll to the second page. Have them highlight
text from name to the end. Go through what the tab
alignment selectors mean. Have them click on it to change it
to centre alignment.
Have them position their mouse over five on their ruler and
click the ruler. The text should automatically move there.
Click on the alignment selector until the left alignment icon
shows and position the mouse at 9 on the ruler. Click.
Now we are going to move a tab. Click the tab at 5 on the
ruler and drag it to six.
We will now get rid of a tab. Click the 9 and drag it off the
ruler. Place a new left tab at 11.
Now we are going to add in bars between the tabs. With the
names and numbers highlighted, change the alignment
selector until it is the bar tab icon. Click the ruler at 3.5. Set
another one at 9.5
Save and close.
