Abortion
Abortion is describe as " the expulsion, either spontaneous or induced, of a fetus from the
womb before it is able to survive, especially in the first 28 weeks of pregnancy." will the other
words, abortion is ending a baby's life before they have the chance to live on their own out of the
womb.
A woman that partakes in the action of having an abortion is stripping their unborn child
of their rights. Every human being in the United States is supposed to have their freedoms and
liberties. A beating heart is a beating heart no matter how small. One of the biggest reasons why
American women have abortions is because teenage girls are getting pregnant while they are still
in high school. Being pregnant in high school is considered a taboo act in our society since
teenage girls are still supposed to be pure in societies eyes. A teenage girl's job in our society is
to go school, not to raise a young child. Majority of teenage woman that are pregnant in high
school end up dropping out because of humiliation, bullying, or to be a full time mom. Though
society sees teenage pregnancy as a deviant act, it's still a better option to raise the child instead
of never giving them a chance for another person's mistake.
According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP), nearly half of women
who end up pregnant in the United States never actually intended to be pregnant. Four out of ten
pregnancies will stop by doing abortion. In 2005, 1.21 million women turn to abortions which

was a significant decrease in the amount of abortions since 2000 when number were at 1.31
million. From 1973 all the way up to 2005, there were over 45 million abortions performed in the
United States. Recently, the number of abortions has decreased from 29.3 per 1000 women to
19.4 per thousand women. These statistics may seem quite high, but in reality the numbers are
decreasing and is still lower compared to other countries. It has only decrease over the last
couple of years because there is a lot of poor women have no access to family planning program
for the effective birth control measures. Pregnant women when they think that they do not want
the baby because what is the point of having a baby if they are not ready to have a huge
responsibility, and they always think that if they dont do abortion the baby will suffer and grew
up poor and unhappy. For me, this is not the right choice, in my own experience as a full time
mother raising a child is a full time job but I'm happy and contented. The general public must be
informed and educated so that we can lessen the numbers of abortion.
There are two sides of abortion namely, the pro-choicers and pro-lifers. Pro-choicers is
limited to the belief of abortion is a woman's choice, but does not necessarily mean someone
agrees with abortion. Pro choice believe that every living soul should have the same freedoms,
and reproductive freedoms. On the other hand Pro-lifers believe that life begins at conception
and abortion should be illegal. Pro-life supporters also believe that fetuses are human, and they
experience a tense amount of pain when doctors perform abortion. Both sided have the main
purpose of lessening the number of abortions. But there is a need for us to focus on the problem
that causes abortion.
According to studies, the main cause of abortion is lack of education. Women should be
well informed by experts on the proper use of contraceptives and encourage them to know the

benefits of it. On the other hand, educating the children and the youth about pregnancy can also
help lower down the numbers of abortion and educate students on the different ways they can
prevent becoming pregnant. This can be done by teachers explaining the consequences of
becoming pregnant at a young age and the seriousness of abortion and pregnancy would have
significant . The class can also educate students on how serious it is to end a human life before
they actually have the right to end it themselves. It would teach them the important of sex and
why the men and women should wait for the right time and the right companion. Educating
students on the severity of sex and pregnancies can lead to the severity of abortions. The class
would be able to identify the advantage and disadvantage of abortion and what other alternatives
there are to abortion. It can also inform students on how expensive it is to have abortion since
ending a life is never cheap. The price of abortions can range from about six hundred dollars to
almost a grand depending on how late in term the mother is. Only certain states will partake in
late term abortions because terminating later in a mothers trimester is the equivalence of
murdering a newborn baby. Aside from this, they would learn how and why birth control and
condoms are so important while being sexually active because it prevents pregnancies. There is
also the Day After Pill that people can take to ensure that they don't become pregnant.
There are also other ways that we can inform the younger generations about the severity
of sex and pregnancy. One of them is making abortion illegal that way a person must face their
consequences or put their child up for adoption, that way a child can have a life, and it can scare
our younger generation from having sex. As of now the public continues to become more
educated about what are those different consequences that come along with having sex, the
percentages of American woman having an abortion should hopefully go down more than it has

in the last several years. Our societys opinion regarding abortion has become different.
According to a CNN poll in 1998 it showed that only 31% of men and 32% of women were for
pro-abortion. I am very confident that if there are a lot of pregnancy clinics in our country, it can
help the public be more aware about pregnancy and the dangers of abortion. Aside from that,
giving away free condoms for use can make a difference to solve the problem.
In conclusion, the high school curriculum for sex education is planned and designed to
promote knowledge about human development and reproduction, and to inform students the
awareness of the consequences of all types of sexual activity. This will also promote young
people's respect for and appreciation of themselves, their families and others. Having a better sex
education system would also help to reduce teenage pregnancies because itll better teach them
their own human anatomy, the different diseases associated with having sex, the different forms
of sexual protection, and the different contraceptives that prevent pregnancies. A note for women
who are pregnant; abortion should not be your go to choice to avoid having a baby, but instead
looking into putting your child up for adoption so they too can have a chance at life.
