REV. FR. JOSE ELISEO BUENVIAJE Y BENGULLO

Our Brother in The Sacred Order of Presbyters, REV. FR. JOSE ELISEO
BUENVIAJE Y BENGULLO, was born in Novaliches, Quezon City on the 1st day
of May 1974 (Labor Day and Feast of St. Joseph the Worker). Jose Eliseo or Joel is a
son of Eliseo R. Buenviaje and Florinda M. Bengullo. He was baptized on May 19,
1974 by Fr. Benito Villalba at the Shrine of Our Lady of Mercy (Bayan). He received
his Sacrament of Confirmation in the same Shrine last September 23, 1981 by Msgr.
Ramon Vera. Joel started his vocation at the Guadalupe Minor Seminary up to
Second Year College at San Carlos Seminary. He went on regency for a long period of
time and thought that the vocation within him was gone. But because of Gods
mercy, grace and fatherly love, He rekindled in Joel the call to become a priest. Joel
decided to continue his vocation to the priesthood at St. Josephs Formation House
and had finished his Theological Studies and Formation at Maryhill School of
Theology (MST).
Joel was ordained to the Order of Deacons on the 19th of August 2010 at the
Cathedral Shrine and Parish of the Good Shepherd and a year after, Rev. Joel was
ordained to the Sacred Order of Presbyters on the 23rd of September 2011, the
liturgical feast of St. Pio of Pietrelcina, by His Excellency, Most Rev. Antonio R.
Tobias, D.D., Bishop of Novaliches, at the Cathedral Shrine and Parish of the Good
Shepherd.
Immediately after his ordination to the priesthood, Fr. Joel was appointed as ViceRector and Parochial Vicar of St. Peter Parish: Shrine of Leaders located at
Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City. In the same year 2011, he was appointed as
the Diocesan Vocations Director, a position he held until the 30th of June 2014.
When the Bishop of the Diocese of Novaliches, His Excellency, the Most Rev. Antonio
Tobias y Realubin, DD, JCL created the Parroquia de la Nuestra Senora de la Paz y
Buen Viaje on the 17th of March 2013, he was appointed on the same date and was
installed as its first Parish Priest on the 5th of May 2013. He holds this position until
his sudden death due to Cardiac Arrest on December 13, 2016, the liturgical feast day

of St. Lucy, Virgin and Martyr, at the Far Eastern University Medical Centre. Fr. Joel
was 42 years old at the time of his death.
The funeral Mass was celebrated by the Bishop of the Diocese of Novaliches, His
Excellency, the Most Reverend Antonio Tobias y Realubin on the 17th day of
December, 2016 according to the Rites of the Roman Catholic Church at the Our
Lady of Mercy Shrine (Bayan). His resting place is at the clergy plot of the Diocese of
Novaliches located at Holy Cross Memorial Park, Brgy. San Bartolome, Novaliches,
Quezon City.
