POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Medical Lab Technician II

Position Information: Henderson County Department of Public Health is accepting


applications for one full-time Medical Lab Technician II. Work week is 37.5 hours Monday
9:30 a.m. 6:30 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Work is
performed under the general supervision of the Medical Laboratory Technologist. The
primary position of the Medical Laboratory Technician is to provide medical laboratory
services as requested by medical providers for patient specimen collection, testing,
interpreting and to accurately provide test results to the medical provider. Duties also
include running quality controls, preparing media and reagents, venipuncture, capillary
sticks, performing laboratory procedures, training medical staff and students, recording
and filing reports in a timely manner, orientating new medical staff to perform specified
testing and documenting training. Position complies with laboratory procedures and
regulatory requirement of Department of Health and Human Services and CLIA. Attends
trainings and adheres to laboratory safety and biological hazards guidelines, and all other
duties as assigned.
Recruitment Standards: General knowledge of the variety of laboratory procedures as
applicable to the area(s) of work. General knowledge of laboratory equipment,
instrumentation, and terminology. Some knowledge of the basic physiological processes
being monitored and how the medical laboratory science is applied. Skill in use of
laboratory equipment and in the performance of procedures. Ability to make accurate
observations and written reports of test results. Ability to understand and follow oral and
written instructions.
Minimum Education and Experience: Position requires a minimum of an Associates
degree in medical technology or a comparable course, and one year of medical
laboratory experience; or high school or General Educational Development diploma and
three years of medical laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education
and experience.
