allgegenwrtigen Vergangenheit geprgt wird. Wie zum Beispiel auf
der Uferpromenade, wo die zwei 100 jhrigen Hotels der Stadt den
Jahrzehnten trotzen. Der Blick auf die einzig erhaltengebliebene und
originalgetreu renovierte Badeinsel des Balatons ruft Erinnerungen
an alten Zeiten wach.
Das Leben der Stadt ist mit dem des Balatons unzertrennlich.
Derjenige, der einen Urlaub schon mal hier verbracht hat, bewahrt
sicher schne Erinnerungen an die Spaziergnge am Ufer unter
den Platanen, oder an einen Schiffsausflug mit dem Csobnc
Die zwei Hotels von der vorigen Jahrhundertwende erinnern einen
an die k.u.k. Zeiten sowie das einzige, erhaltengebliebene und
originalgetreu renovierte Inselbad des Sees, das zum Stdtischen
Strand gehrt. Von den drei Strnden ist der Stdtische der
Schnste. In wunderschner Umgebung, neben dem neuerrichteten
Yachthafen liegt der Libs Strand.

11. Balatoner Museum

Wo einst der Herrenhof der Familie Gersei Peth stand, da begann

Kristf Festetics 1745 den Bau des Schlosses. Die endgltige
neobarocke Form erhielt das Gebude in den 1880er Jahren. Das
Schloss ist von den Verwstungen des Zweiten Weltkrieges auf
wunderbare Weise verschont geblieben. Seit 1974 funktioniert
unter dem Namen Helikon Schlossmuseum. Mit einem Bestand
von 100.000 Bchern verfgt es ber die grte herrschaftliche
Buchsammlung des Landes. Das Schloss ist ein Museum und
zugleich ein Konferenz- und Kulturzentrum.

The house that was built in the middle of the 18th century in
baroque style is one of the remembrances of town contstruction,
founden as an Estate Architectural Office by Kristf Festetics.

1. Festetics Castle

On the site of the mansion of the Gersei Peth family, the construction of the castle was started by Kristf Festetics in 1745. It
gained its final neo-baroque form in the 1880s. It miraculously
avoided destruction during the second World War. As Helikon
Castle Museum, it has been independent since 1974. Its library
of 100000 volumes is the only complete aristocratic collection in
Hungary to have been left intact. It is a museum (permanent and
temporary exhibitions), a conference and cultural centre.

It is in the courtyard of the Peth-house.

Already in 1769, a Jewish house of prayer
was standing in the same place. Its eclectic
frontage was built in 1894.

Keszthely towns the proud title of being the Capital of Balaton,

where history, culture and the charm of the Summer Country have
met in a fortunate way. Keszthely has an atmosphere, where the
visitor will see the remains of the past at every turn, the Festetics
Castle, the promenade along the shore with hundred-year old
hotels and the unique Island-bath of Lake Balaton, which is the
only remaining island-bath of the lake radiating the atmosphere of
the happy time of peace.
The town lives together with the many-coloured lake. Who has
already spent his holiday here must have nice memories; a walk
under the platans of the shore, a boat-excursion by the Csobnc
