Reading:
Determine two or
more central ideas
of a text and
analyze their
development over
the course of the
text, including how
they interact and
build on one
another to provide
a complex
analysis; provide
an objective
summary of
the text.

I have met this

standard because
throughout my first
few quick writes
and learning logs I
have provided a
summary of both
the question and
the object of the
text.

I need to improve
my writing
technique to not
just one way of
writing. I have
some experiences
with imaginative
writing but Im not
as detailed as I
want to be.

I met this standard

because I have
found it easy to
point out logos,
pathos, and ethos
in a text and when
someone is
speaking. I am
able to figure
someone's tone of
speech to know
how they are
feeling.

Criteria/
Standard

Writing: Write
narratives to
develop real or
imagined
experiences or
events using
effective
technique,
well-chosen
details, and
well-structured
event sequences.
Speaking and
Listening:
Evaluate a
speaker's point of
view, reasoning,
and use of
evidence and
rhetoric, assessing
the stance,
premises, links
among ideas,
word choice,
points of
emphasis, and
tone used.

I believe that Im
able to have a
clear perspective
when writing an
essay. I do include
counter
arguments, that do
sometimes over
power my
statement but I
pull it back in the
end.

I am still struggling
in the writing
sense. Making a
counterclaim is
easy but I tend to
over counterclaim
myself. Im never
on one side of the
argument.

Writing: Develop
claim(s) and
counterclaims
fairly and
thoroughly,
supplying the most
relevant evidence
for each
while pointing out
the strengths and
limitations of both
in a manner that
anticipates the
audience's
knowledge level,
concerns, values,
and possible
biases.

I was just below

meeting this
standard in my
opinion. I can
understand the
author's point of
view for the most
part but still
struggle with
finding the
particularity
effectiveness.

Reading:
Determine an
author's point of
view or purpose in
a text in which the
rhetoric is
particularly
effective,
analyzing
how style and
content contribute
to the power,
persuasiveness
or beauty of the
text.
Speaking/Listeni
ng: Present
information,
findings, and
supporting
evidence,
conveying a clear
and distinct
perspective, such
that listeners can
follow the line of
reasoning,
alternative or
opposing
perspectives are
addressed, and
the organization,
development,

substance, and
style are
appropriate
to purpose,
audience, and a
range of formal
and informal
tasks.

Reading: Analyze
the impact of the
author's choices
regarding
how to develop
and relate
elements of a
story or drama.
I still struggle to
add outside
sources to my
essays and
writing. Id rather
have my own
thoughts but I
understand the
necessity of the
sources to help
my thesis.

Speaking and
Listening: Come
to discussions
prepared; explicitly
draw on that
preparation by
referring to
evidence from
texts and other
research on the
topic or issue to
stimulate a
thoughtful,
well-reasoned
exchange of
ideas.

I can understand
this and can
continuously
analyze an
author's impact for
days if the
story/essay can
hold my interest.
