Pre-Production

The purpose of Pre-Production is to determine the overall purpose


of the project.
Pre-Production steps:
Define the intended audience
Consult with the client
Determine hardware- microphones and audio recording
device
Determine software

Audio Editing
Software

Audio Editing Software is the process of capturing audio from the


original source and imports it into the editing software.
*Adobe Audition and Audacity
Audio Editing also manipulates audio clips and adds the desired
tracks and effects to convey the intended message.

Production

The main purpose of the Production phase is to maintain audio


levels throughout recording to ensure quality.
Save recorded audio and record audio from original source.

Post-Production

Post-Production is the next phase in which it optimize the audio


output file for specific client needs, such as; primary use of audio
clip, file size requirements, and file format requirements.
The usage of an audio editing software to edit the recorded
audio.

Track

Track is the process of separating layers of audio used to record


sources individually.

Volume Units
Meter

Volume Units meter is a visual representation of the audio volume


level
*used to ensure all audio clips recorded are at the same level.

Master Level

The usage of the master level is to control the overall output


volume of an audio recording.

Audio Panning

Audio Panning is the process when audio is recorded through


separate channels (left to right).

Over-modulation

Over-modulation is the sound interference that occurs during


recording when audio levels are too high and causes the signal to
distort/lose clarity.

Clip

Clip is a recorded sound section used to create an audio production.

Trim/Splice

Trim/Splice is the starting and stopping position of audio clips at a


defined point in the recording.

Adjusting Track
Levels

The adjustment of track levels is the increase or decrease in


volume of individual tracks.
Purpose: To ensure all tracks are audible and blend well
together.

Fade

Fade is the process of a gradual change of volume used to change


between audio clips.

Fade Up (In)
Fade Down (Out)

Fading is the process of gradually increasing/decreasing the audio


clips volume.

Crossfade

Crossfade is the gradual volume transition from one audio clip to


another.

Loop

Loop is the process for making an audio section to repeat.

Audio Effects

Audio Effects are the adjustments to clips used to change the


original sound to reach the desired outcome.

Background
Audio

Background Audio is music/sounds used to ad interest and depth to


an audio production.

Voiceover

Voiceover is a voice used to convey a message to the audience.
