WWL-TV Action Reporter Bill Capo introduced this special series to New Orleans thirty years ago, as part

of Channel Fours commitment to encourage safe holiday driving. Twelve for the Road counts down to New Years Eve with a favorite non-alcoholic holiday
beverage from a range of well-known local and national personalities. Beginning Tuesday, December 20th, the series airs for twelve
consecutive nights during Eyewitness News at 10 p.m.

So lets toast to the spirit of a safe and happy holiday, with a dozen great alcohol-free drinks!

1. The Tammany Treat

1 oz. lime juice
cup of Ginger Beer
1 tbs. simple syrup
2 oz. sparkling water, tonic,

or club soda
Combine ingredients in glass along with
ice cubes, stir well. Garnish with lime slice,
and small slice of ginger.

2. Mexican Hot Chocolate

2-3.5 oz. bars Mexican Chocolate


2 cinnamon sticks
cup water
2 cups milk
1 cup heavy cream
tsp. chili powder
Pinch of ground nutmeg
1 tsp vanilla

Melt chocolate in water with cinnamon
stick in pot on stove. Once chocolate is
melted, add milk, cream, chili powder,
nutmeg, and vanilla. Bring to a boil, then
simmer on medium heat for five minutes.
When cool enough to drink, serve in cups
and garnish with cinnamon stick. May also
be refrigerated and served cold.

3. Caribbean Vacation

1.5 oz. Grapefruit Juice


3/4 oz. Lime Juice
oz. Orgeat (Almond Syrup)
1/2 oz. Ginger Syrup
oz. Simple Syrup
Club Soda

Combine ingredients in shaker cup with


ice, shake to mix. Strain mixture into glass
with crushed ice. Add a splash of Club
Soda. Garnish with mint sprig.

5 crushed Starlight Mint candies


10 Andes Chocolate Mint candies
1 Pint Milk
5 scoops Vanilla Ice Cream
Whipped Cream
Red & Green Sprinkles
Put crushed Starlight mints, Andes Mints,
Milk and Ice Cream in a blender. Blend
about thirty seconds until mixture is
creamy. Pour into glasses. Garnish with
whipped cream, an Andes Mint, and red &
Green Sprinkles.

1 slice fresh orange
12 fresh blueberries
1 oz. simple syrup
3 oz. Half & Half
Club Soda

Put orange slice, blueberries, and simple


syrup in mixing cup, muddle to release
flavors. Add ice, and Half & Half, and shake
until mixed. Strain into glass, top off with
Club Soda, garnish with orange slice and
blueberry on toothpick.

6. Bayou Holiday Punch

4 oz. water
1 oz. sugar
1 oz. sweet tea
oz. frozen orange juice
concentrate, thawed
oz. frozen lemonade
concentrate, thawed
Combine ingredients in pitcher, stir or
shake to mix. Serve over ice with orange
slice garnish.

7. Quiet Riot Holiday Punch


The Molly Ringwalds
6 cups Apple Cider
2 cups Cranberry Juice
1 cup Orange Juice
cup lemon juice
1 bottle (750 milliliters)
Sparkling White Grape Juice
Sliced Apples and Oranges
In a large pitcher, combine Apple Cider,
Cranberry Juice, Orange Juice, and Lemon
Juice. Stir in the Sparkling White Grape
Juice Serve in glasses with ice.
Garnish with orange and apple slices, and
dried cranberries

10. Deuces Beer Tea

1 oz. Ginger Syrup


2 oz. Cranberry Juice
2 oz. Pineapple Juice
4 oz. Sweet Tea
Sprite
Add Ginger Syrup, Cranberry Juice,
Pineapple Juice, and Sweet Tea to mixing
cup along with ice, and shake until blended. Pour into a glass, but only fill it 3/4 of
the way. Top with a splash of Sprite.
Garnish with a Strawberry.

12. NOLA Triumph

5 oz. Ginger Beer


oz. Raspberry Puree
oz. Lime Juice
Combine ingredients in a pitcher with
ice, and stir. Add ice to glass. Strain mix
into glass. Garnish with lime slice or
lemon twist.

Crushed Peppermint Candy
Raspberry Coulis (puree)
1 scoop vanilla ice cream
2 oz. Mint Syrup
1 oz. Cream
Mint Leaf
Line the glass rim with crushed peppermint candy. Line the glass with swirls of
Raspberry Coulis. Add Ice Cream, Simple
Syrup, and Cream to a blender. Blend
until smooth. Pour into Martini glass.
Garnish with mint leaf.

2 cups Ice
1 qt. Pineapple Juice
1 cup Cherry Juice
1 medium Banana
tsp. Nutmeg
tsp. Cinnamon
Whipped Cream

on Channel 4's
Eyewitness News at 10 p.m.,
starting December 20th.

Put Ice, Pineapple Juice, Cherry Juice,


Banana, Nutmeg, and Cinnamon in a
blender. Blend for 30-45 seconds until
smooth. Pour into a glass. Garnish with
Whipped Cream and Ground Cinnamon.

9. The Pecan Chauffeur

Restaurateurs Ti Martin & Lally Brennan


Caf Adelaide
3-4 dashes El Guapo
Chicory-Pecan Bitters
1 -2 oz. Cold Brew Coffee
(depending on taste & strength)
4-5 oz. Cream Soda
Ice
In 8-10 oz. cup or glass, add Cold Brew,
bitters, and ice. Top with Cream Soda. Stir
to mix. Garnish with Cinnamon stick or
holiday inspired garnish.
