1) Open ETABS Click File menu select new model.

Select No from the dialogue box.

2) The next form of Building Plan Grid System and Story Data Definition will be displayed
after you select NO button.

Set the grid line and spacing between two grid lines. Set the story height data using Edit
Story Data command.

3) Define the design code using Options > Preferences > Concrete Frame Design

4) Click the Define menu > Material Properties

Add New Material or Modify/Show Material used to define material properties.

5) Define section columns and beams using Define > Frame section

Define beam sizes and click Reinforcement command to provided concrete cover.

Smilarly define thecolumns.

6) For assigning infill first define masonry from material properties.

Choose the type of design as concrete and fill in the properties of the bricks, like
the modulus of elasticity and density.
Then go to define frame sections and define the sections of the masonry.

7) Define wall/slab/deck

8) Draw beam using Create Line Command and draw column using Create
Columncommand.

Draw slab as follows

draw infill do as follows:

Use Eccen back or Eccen Forward when drawing the infills.

9) Define various loads (Dead load, live load, Earthquake load)

10) Assign supports.

11) In building, slab is considered as a single rigid member during earthquake analysis.
Forthat, all slabs are selected first and apply diaphragm action for rigid or semi
rigidcondition.

12) Response spectrum The design response spectra of IS 1893-2002 given as input in the
Define menu > Response Spectrum Functions. Response spectra load cases are define in
Response Spectrum cases.

13) Run the analysis and various curves is shown from Display > Show Story Response Plot.

14) Design is carried out from Design > Concrete Frame Design > Start Concrete Design.

If all the beams and columns are safe then go ahead for non- linear analysis.
15) select all beam to assign hinge properties from Assign> Frame/Line > Frame Nonlinear
Hinges commandMoment.

Similarly select columns and infills and assign the hinges. For infill assign default P
hinge at the centeri.e. put relative distance as 0.5.
Moment and shear (M & V) hinges are considered for beam element and axial with
biaxial moment (P-M-M) hinges are considered for column element as shown in Figure.

16) Defining static nonlinear load cases from Define > Static Nonlinear/Pushover
command. For push over analysis first apply the gravity loading as PUSHDOWN shown
in Figure andsubsequently use lateral displacement or lateral force as PUSH 2 in
sequence to derivecapacity curve and demand curve as shown in Figure. Start from
previous pushover case asPUSHDOWN for gravity loads is considered for lateral loading
as PUSH 2.

17) Run the Pushover analysis from Analysis > Run Static Nonlinear Analysis command

Review the pushover analysis results from Display > Show Static Pushover Curve command.

Then click on capacity spectrum option, to get the performance point.

18) To see the hinges Display > Show Deform shape
