Secondary 4 Visits the Depressed

The batch of secondary 4 visited the home of the depressed at Cimahi on the
10th of September for their annual community service project. Both Grace and
Wisdom classes were combined this year, as this was their final community service
project for the year.
The secondary 4 students were excited as well as curious about the people
that they are about to cater to. But upon arrival at the home of the depressed, they
were all delighted to be welcomed by the warm and friendly greetings of the owner
of the institution.
Some of the people here are still able to talk and interact with one another,
while some have disabilities since theyre young which hinders them from
communicating properly. But theyre all experiencing depression, where mostly are
due to family problems, said Yopie, the owner of the institution.
Upon entering the institution house, students were a little surprised to find that
there were no teenagers at all, but mostly are elders and some young adults.
Nevertheless, the program was continued, which began with a short opening remark
spoken by Gabriel Emmanuel and to be followed by a prayer to be led by Ervina.
Some students prepared some chess board games and began to play and
interact with the people there, while some played table tennis and basketball in the
backyard court. While the games are going on, some of the elder women who arent
playing games decided to play several musical instruments such as Angklung
which was accompanied by Ervina. Soon as the games were over, the band of
secondary 4 played a few songs in purpose of enlightening the mood and the hearts
of the depressed people.
The program ended with a short meal and a farewell remark. According to Mr.
Randy, this was the first time where community service was really felt like a real
service done for the community. For the secondary 4, this is indeed their most
successful community service, and they will look forward to their upcoming
community service next year.
