point machines by skilled staff who have been instructed
on operating rail conditions and working with the HZM

Secure pins!
Before the measurement, the connecting pin is replaced
by the force-measuring pin.
If the force-measuring pin is to remain in place while the
train is crossing, it must be secured against twisting with
the locking plate.
The measuring cable must not be laid over the rail or
touch moving parts.

Warranty!
The measuring device must not be opened. The warranty
becomes invalid if the device or the accessories are manipulated in any way.

Caution - Damage to components!

Do not use any heavy tools (e. g. hammer) when inserting the measuring pin in the hole of the setting rod or of
the drive rod.
Measuring electronics inside the measuring pin can be
damaged by violent vibrations.

The following forces can be measured in the measurements menu:

Setting force (slip force):
The maximum setting force is the force of the point machine which impacts
as tractive or compressive force on the setting rod (rods) when the tongue is
blocked and the clutch starts slipping.
Important!
The maximum setting force is ascertained one second after the clutch starts
slipping. An algorithm in the device calculates the mean value of the force in
the time period from the first to the second second after the clutch starts
slipping. The slipping procedure must last at least 2.5 seconds. If the slip
procedure was too short, the error message "ER1 appears in the display
beside the force determined:

1 Y axis: information in kN
2 X axis, information in seconds
3 The moment when the clutch begins to slip
4 Measuring range (1 second) from which the slip force is calculated
5 Slip force determined in kN
6 Setting direction (- <) to the left or (+>) to the right

The value can be found on Page 2 (Seite 2) of each setting force measurement in the archive.
Setting resistance:
The setting resistance is the maximum tractive or compressive force transferred to the setting rod while the point machine sets the point from one end
position to the other end position without clutch slip.
Holding force:
The holding force is the maximum tractive or compressive force with which
the toothed rod is held in end position. The holding force can be determined
e. g. during a trailing procedure (triggered by a vehicle or a special tool).
Tongue residual tension:
The tongue residual tension is the force with which the tongue impacts on
the setting rod when it is in end position left or right.
Manual setting force:
The manual setting force is the maximum force which is required to set the
point e. g. with a setting lever.
Continuous measurement:
Continuous measurement enables recording of the forces in a time period of
up to 12 hours. The measuring procedure starts automatically as soon as
the threshold value set is exceeded and continues until the force measured
has stabilised in a range of +/- 50 N over the time period of two seconds.
Setting resistance and setting force measurement:
This means two consecutive menu-guided measurements of setting resistance (in both driving directions) and setting force (in both driving directions).

Resetting to zero
Minor deviations of less than 0.5 %, due to a change in temperature for example, can be remedied by the zero set.
Zero set can be performed after the device is switched on (before the measurement). The force-measuring pin must not be in use when doing so!
Proceed as follows:
1. Switch device on.
2. Press both keys at the same time:

The device is ready for operation when the value 0.00 is displayed.
In certain circumstances (e. g. special measurement), the zero set can
be deliberately performed when the force-measuring pin is in use.
The HZM must be switched off for a short time when the special measurement is finished so that the factory setting can be restored.

For easier use of the force-measuring pin, the point machine must be switched
off and the setting rod driven into optimal position with the crank handle ( See
Chapter "Mounting force-measuring pin - arrow direction right).
Due to local circumstances (e.g. the detector rods are in the way of the connector), the force-measuring pin may have to be installed with the arrow direction to
the left ( See Chapter "Special case: Mounting force-measuring pin - arrow
direction left).

expires or by pressing any key.
The values measured are shown. Press 0 to switch between the general
values measured and the diagram.

The data measured can be stored with ENTER or discarded with ESC.
This takes you to the menu item selection of measuring type. The
measuring process can be repeated from No. 8 or aborted with ESC.
