Domain 2: The Classroom Environment

Classroom interactions between Ms. Talleur and individual students were highly respectful, reflecting genuine
warmth and caring. This was clearly evident as Ms. Talleur warmly greeted the students as the lesson began. She
wished everyone a good morning, and causally asked if they enjoyed their weekend. Ms. Talleur regularly smiled
and exuded a genuine enthusiasm for the subject matter and for student success. This was particularly evident as
Ms. Talleur displayed her new dry-erase markers and enthusiastically called on students to write their answers
from the Do Now on the whiteboard. It was evident that Ms. Talleur has established a nice rapport and a sense of
trust with her students.
There was little loss of instructional time due to effective classroom routines and procedures. The Do Now,
Agenda, and Objectives were clearly projected onto the board. The homework was clearly displayed on a small
poster board. Ms. Talleur also opened the class by making a few general announcements to ensure students were
aware of the day's expectations.
Student behavior was generally appropriate. Ms. Talleur was consistently circulating around the room to ensure
students remained on-task. She quietly and respectfully reminded one student not to use his cell phone and
another student to remove an earbud.

Domain 3: Instruction
Ms. Talleur's explanation of the content was clear and accurate. This was evident as Ms. Talleur reviewed student
answers to the Do Now that volunteers wrote on the whiteboard. Ms. Talleur, with student assistance, reviewed
how to write out the correct electron configurations using orbital notations for various elements. Ms. Talleur
correctly highlighted the maximum number of electrons that can fill each sublevel. She even showed an "arrow
diagram" to further detail how to fill energy sublevels.
Assessment was regularly used during instruction. Ms. Talleur assessed students primarily by asking questions
and reviewing student work that was written on the whiteboard. Ms. Talleur was also observed circulating and
monitoring student progress as they worked on the Do Now questions.
