Home
- Describe the purpose of the ePortfolio, including the following (what year it is for,
what grade it is for, and whose class it is for)

My Story
- Student will write a brief introduction about themselves for others to read

Goals
- List 3 goals at the beginning of the year.
- Reflect on them half way through the school year
- Reflect on them at the end of the year

Science Portfolio:
A. Content outcomes for science

Science Standard: SC.5.E.5.1: students will recognize that a galaxy consists

of gas, dust, and many stars, including any object orbiting the stars. Identify

our home galaxy as the Milky Way (CPALMS, N.D.).

Science Standard: SC.5.E.5.2: students will recognize the major common
characteristics of all planets and compare/contrast the properties of inner and

outer planets.
Science Standard: SC.5.E.5.3: Students will be able to distinguish among the
following objects of the Solar System sun, planets, moons, aseteroids,
comets and identify Earths position in it (CPALMS, N.D.).

S:ESS1:6:4.1 Recognize that images taken of the Earth from

space can show its features and any changes in those
features that appear over time (Lynch, 2006, p.53).

S:ESS2:6:1.1 Recognize and describe how the regular and

predictable motions of the Earth and Moon explain certain
Earth phenomena, such as day and night, the seasons, the
year, shadows and the tides (Lynch, 2006, p. 55).

S:ESS2:6:1.2 Recognize that of all the known planets, Earth

appears to be somewhat unique; and describe the conditions
that exist on Earth that allow it to support life (Lynch, 2006,
p. 55).

S:ESS2:8:3.1 Identify the characteristics and movement

patterns of the planets in our Solar System and differentiate
between them (Lynch, 2006, p. 56).

o Students will create a 5 minute (minimum) presentation

on a planet in our solar system

Create a recording of the presentation

o Students will complete a KWL chart on the planets and

our solar system
o Students will make a digital poster about their
researched planet
o Students will make a digital poster about an object in
the solar system
o Students will make a mind map comparing and
contrasting planets

Students will reflect on their planet presentation, which will be a part of their

ePortfolio
Students will create a blog post that describes what the student learned from

their peers presentations

Students will create a mind map to compare and contrast planets (similar to

the following list):

o Inner and outer planets
o Types of planets
o Two planets of their choice
Students will create a blog to post final projects/presentations, as well as
reflections throughout the year

ePortfolio Implementation Plan

At the beginning of the school year Miss Michalovic will introduce her students to the
concept of ePortfolios and show them some examples of previous ePortfolios. Students will
begin to create their ePortfolios at the beginning of the school year, filling in the introduction
sections:
2016 2017 5th Grade

Home
- Describe the purpose of the ePortfolio, including the following (what year it is for,
what grade it is for, and whose class it is for)

My Story
- Student will write a brief introduction about themselves for others to read
Goals
- List 3 goals at the beginning of the year.
- Reflect on them half way through the school year
- Reflect on them at the end of the year
Students will begin the content areas of their ePortfolio during the first unit of each

subject and will continue to add to each content area throughout the school year. The following
content areas will be on the students ePortfolio:
2. Content areas on ePortfolio:
viii.
Science
ix.
Math
x.
Writing
xi.
Social Studies
xii.
Computer
xiii.
Reading
xiv. Music
Students will add something to each content area for every lesson that they complete. Lessons
will have major assignments that students will be required to submit to their ePortfolio. The
continuation of the ePortfolio throughout the school year will allow students to see how their
work progresses throughout the school year.
In order to create their ePortfolios, students will need access to laptops, video cameras,
scanners, and cameras in order to upload their work to their portfolio. Students will also need
access to computer applications and the internet to complete assingments on the computer that
will go on their ePortfolio. In order for students to create their ePortfolios, the following links
will be useful as resources for both the teacher and the students:

Students will be provided with other resources in the classroom, such as useful links regarding
the topics that are currently being studied. Those resources will be presented to students at the

beginning of each unit, and additionally during lessons. Some useful links for students when they
are working on their Solar System section of the ePortfolio are:
