Sony Online Enterprise game Everquest II is a money making move for the company. Scott
Mc Daniel, Vice President of Marketing for SoE has the responsibilty of bringing profits to
the company but not at the cost of SOE reputation. As marketing VP of the company his is
the one who should take up the challenge and decide on the launch. A persons leadership
qualities are always tested in some way or the other through life challenges. The first
principle being know yourself and seek self-improvement. In order to know yourself, you
have to understand your "be", "know", and "do" attributes. This is possible by continually
strengthening your attributes by reading and self-study. This is the quality which Scott should
posses in order to know himself whether he has the courage to face the challenges and make
the game a success despite all odds. Second principle says be technically proficient. As a
leader, you must know your job and have a solid familiarity with your employees' jobs. Scott
should believe in his product and its ability to earn profits for the company. Seek
responsibility and take responsibility for your actions. Search for ways to guide your
organization to new heights. And when things go wrong, do not blame others. Scott should
take the responsibility and make sure that he defend his company well with a good company.
He should make the people believe that his game is good it is just that people should be more
careful and do not take the game to personal life. Games should be played as games without
any impact on anyones life. Accidents happen its not that the product of SOE is solely
responsible for the mishappening. It was just an accident and could happen with any product.
People shhould be more careful while handling them. Seek responsibility and take
responsibility for your actions. Search for ways to guide your organization to new heights.
And when things go wrong, do not blame others. This is the principle which makes a leader
great. Not anyone can take the blame and face the situation. Its the one who faces and
overcomes the tough situation with his abilities of convincing and making people believe in
him and SOE makes great in life. Scott should make sound and timely decisions. Use good
problem solving, decision-making, and planning tools. Set the example. Be a good role model
for you employees. They will believe what they see - not what they hear. Know your people
and look out for their well-being. Know human nature and the importance of sincerely caring
for your workers. Dont let negativity creep in the organization. Motivate the employees to
believe in themselves and the organization. It is essential to trust each other during such
situations. Take strict action against those spreading rumours and trying to tarnish
organizations image. Ask the employees not to panic at the time of crisis. Encourage them to
face the tough times with courage, determination and smile. Make them work as a single unit.
It is the duty of the leader to provide a sense of direction to the employees. Keep your people
informed. Know how to communicate with your people, seniors, and other key people within
the organization. Dont avoid stakeholders, external parties and most importantly media.
Come out, meet them and explain the whole situation. Ignoring people makes things worse.
Develop strong partnerships with external parties and ask for help. Never lose hope. Be a
strong pillar of support for your team members. They should be able to fall back on you.
Develop a sense of accountability, ownership and responsibility in your people. These traits
will help them carry out their professional responsibilities. Be aggressive in the
marketplace. This may sound counter-intuitive, but a crisis offers the best opportunity to
change the game in your favor, with new products or services to gain market share. Many
people look at a crisis as something to get through, until they can go back to business as
usual. But business as usual never returns because markets are irrevocably changed. Ensure
tasks are understood, supervised, and accomplished. Communication is the key to this
responsibility.Train your people as a team. By developing team spirit, you will be able to

employ your organization, department, section, etc. to its fullest capabilities. When things are
going well, people resist major changes or try to get by with minor adaptations. A crisis
provides the leader with the platform to get things done that were required anyway and offers
the sense of urgency to accelerate their implementation. So As big a money-maker it
promised to be the product should be launched and is justified but with proper execution of
the campaigns and activities that will make the road of the product clear and it will be a great
success. It is essential to note that leadership is all about values, and it is impossible to be a
leader if you lack the awareness and concern for your own personal values. Leadership has a
moral and ethical aspect. These ethics define leadership. Leaders can use the above
mentioned traits as yardsticks for influencing their own behaviour. Ethics refer to the
desirable and appropriate values and morals according to an individual or the society at large.
Ethics deal with the purity of individuals and their intentions. Ethics serve as guidelines for
analyzing what is good or bad in a specific scenario. It is often said that good leaders are
born and not made; however, good leaders are those who are aware of their personality traits
and also of their followers. They know which leadership style is to be adopted in a particular
situation. Once this is done, there is a little challenge left for a leader to become a good /
great leader. Although ethics for a leader is not just following few laws, rules and
regulations but one needs to address unmet demands of human rights and social justice.
Henceforth it is important for Scott to recognise the death of young child issue and analyse
how can it influence customers in different countries and plan accordingly. Scott is supposed
to take into account companys profits as well as not exempting the issue. He should involve
HR manager as well to discuss the issue and take step for campaigning the product into the
