Dear President-elect Trump:
We students of Heritage High School are respectfully addressing this letter to the President-elect
and whomever this may concern. Illegal immigration in our country has become a massive
problem that is no one is attempting to fix. According to the Department of Homeland Security,
there are millions of unauthorized immigrants in the United States. In 2014 there were 11.1
million unauthorized illegal immigrants. More than half of illegal immigrants are visa overstays.
37% of prisoners are illegal immigrants, which means we, as American citizens with our tax
dollars, are paying for them to stay in a country which they legally can't be in, rather than using
the money to go to something that is helping pay for our countrys needs (By Maki Park, Margie
McHugh, and Caitlin Katsiaficas). Illegal immigrants in America dont pay taxes to contribute to
the country as a whole, but still use our education system to benefit themselves which is worth
tens of billions of dollars. They use this education that we provide to collect jobs from American
citizens.
The facts speak for themselves, but there are two sides to this argument. One side believes
that the illegal immigrants should be removed from the country and no longer receive benefits
from American government and taxpayers.
The other side of the argument believes that the illegal immigrants should stay in the country
receiving benefits from American government and taxpayers. Some people say that illegal
immigration benefits the US economy through additional tax revenue, expansion of the low-cost
labor pool, and increased money in circulation. While opposers believe that illegal immigrants
are making the economy crash, and not benefiting America at all.
There is a very sharp difference between what is said about the economy versus what people
experience from their personal relations with the economy. For the lower and middle classes
salaries become stagnant, and jobs are created, which native born American citizens are not
hired. However many sources say that a lot of illegal immigrants take jobs that have little or no
chance of moving up in the corporate ladder. This has a huge negative impact on the lower to
middle class. Americans with no technical training and no high school diploma are losing out on
jobs that are going to illegal immigrants (immigration.procon.org).
Understanding that most illegal immigrants come to America for better opportunity that still
doesn't make it right that they aren't coming with visas or green cards. We recognize that a large
part of your presidential campaign was focused around Immigration, but most presidents have

also had the same focus. We hope that you will work towards resolving the issues surrounding
illegal immigration.
Sincerely,
Brady Austin, Madison Whitmer, Walter Reinke, Alexander Baker
