7. Motive question
Who will help our main character in the story in
her time of need? Why was she helped?
8. Reading the story
Love and Time
Once upon a time, in an island there lived all
the feelings and emotions: Happiness, Sadness,
Knowledge, and all of the others, including
Love. One day it was announced to them that
the island would sink! So all constructed boats
and left. Except for Love.

5.A

Love wanted to hold out until the last possible

moment.
When the island had almost sunk, Love decided
to ask for help.
Richness was passing by Love in a grand boat.
Love said,
"Richness, can you take me with you?"
Richness answered, "Sorry Love, I can't. There
is a lot of gold and silver in my boat and so
there is no place here for you."
Love next asked Vanity who was also sailing by
in a beautiful boat. "What a beautiful boat!" she
said.
"Vanity, please help me to get off this island."
Vanity was also ready with the same answer.
"I can't help you, Love. You are all wet and
might damage my boat," Vanity answered.
Sadness was close by so Love asked, "Sadness,
take me along with you."
"Oh . . . Love, I am so sad that I need to be by
myself!", sadness said in a sullen voice.
Happiness passed by Love, too, but he was so
preoccupied with his happiness that he did not
even hear when Love called him.
Suddenly, there was a voice, "Come, Love, I will
take you." It was a young boy. An overjoyed
Love jumped up into the boat and in the process
forgot to ask where they were going. When they

arrived at a dry land, the young boy went his

own way.
Realizing how much was owed to the boy, Love
asked Knowledge an elder, "Who helped me?"
"It was Time," Knowledge answered.
"Time? But why did Time help me?" thought
Love. Then, as if reading the face of Love,
Knowledge smiled and answered with deep
wisdom, "Because only Time is capable of
understanding how valuable Love is."

9. Answering the motive question

Who is the main character in the story?

Who helped our main character in her time of

need?

Why did Time helped love?

Why do have different emotions?

B. Lesson Proper
Now class I want you to take a look at these
sentences found in the story.

character in the
story is Love.

main character.

valuable Love is

The island would sink.

Like our emotions, there are also different types

of sentences for different situations or purpose
Take a look at the first sentence. Did the island
really sunk?

Yes!

Then the first sentence purpose is to tell us the

fact that the island really did sink and that
sentence is what we call Declarative sentences.

- A declarative sentence is one that

expresses a fact or an opinion and ends
with a period.
Who can give other examples of a Declarative
sentence?
Now take a look at the second sentence. Can
you tell its purpose?
Very good! That type of sentence is what we
call Imperative sentences.
- An imperative sentence gives commands,
request, prohibitions, and suggestions and
ends with a period or an exclamation
point.

round.
Its making a
request.

Who can give other examples of an Imperative

sentence?
How about the third sentence, can you tell its
purpose?
Good! Sentences that ask a question are called
Interrogative sentences.

Place my bag
on the table
Its asking a
question.

- An interrogative sentence asks for

information or makes a yes or a no and
ends with a question mark.
Who can give an example of an Interrogative
sentence?
What time is it?
For the last sentence what do you think its
trying to express.

It expresses
strong emotion.

Correct! And these sentences are called

Exclamatory sentences.
- An exclamatory sentence expresses strong
emotions and ends with an exclamation
point.
Who can give me an example of an Exclamatory
