Students are able to understand the costs of unethical practice, namely
cheating.
Group discussion
Opening
1. Homeroom teacher greets the students
2. Students do Character movement
3. Students learn that the topic is Ethical
Main activity:
1. Students are divided into six groups.
2. Each group discusses one of the following questions:
1. Is Everybodys doing it a valid reason to cheat?
2. Is cheating in any of the following circumstances less wrong than cheating in the
others: (a) school, (b) business, (c) job or college application, (d) athletic event?
Explain.
3. How do you gain the trust of another person? How do you destroy it?
4. What are some of the consequences of cheating, even if you dont get caught?
5. What are some of the rewards of being honest?
6. Do you see any threats to our present society from dishonesty (cheating)?
Explain.
3. The groups present their answers. Homeroom teacher steers the discussion
into identifying the following ethics:
 Dishonesty turns us into phonies.
 Dishonesty always carries a cost, internal if not external.
 Dishonesty often cant be hidden because our deceptions eventually catch
up with us.
 Dishonesty ruins relationships because it destroys trust.
 Dishonesty prevents our fulfillment because it undermines our selfrespect.
 Honesty brings peace of mind.
 Honesty builds our character and reputation.
 Honesty strengthens our relationships.
 Honesty is good for our mental health because it frees us from guilt and
worry and builds our self-respect.
 Honesty enables us to be authentictrue to ourselves.
Closing
Homeroom teacher closes the session by reading one of the following quotes:
 If you tell the truth, you dont have to remember what you said.
