A rural is an open swath of land that has few homes or other buildings,
and not very many people. A rural areas population density is very low.
Many people live in city or urban area. their homes and businesses are
located very close to one another. We decided to find the truth and
problem with ourselves, and here we are in Kampot, Cambodia. We
decide to go there because we want to know how people were doing in
the area.

Journey to Kampot Cambodia

Arubak story

We arrive in Cambodia on midnight and ride a

small van heading south to Kampot. The road is
not very well but we still enjoy the journey. On the
morning we arrive in Syay Rumpea a town near
Kampot district. The driver stops the van for a
breakfast. While we were eating we found a boy
selling a orange in the street. We buy some orange
and ask the child why he is selling orange instead
of going to school. It was quite sad story that the
child mother pass away and her father is too poor
to take care of her. We began to saw more poor
people selling fruit in the street and the
unexpected is there is many children selling fruit
more than an adult.

Danbizerlian Family
We arrive at the front of Danbizerlian Family house and began the
interview. The house look poor I see Grandfather Ler sitting in front of the house
then Mr. Danbizerlian came to get me. He show me around the house the house
look poor there is not much furniture and also not a lot of food store in the house.
We ask Mr. Danbizerlian where is the rest of the family and why your grandfather is
in the house. Mr.Danbizerlian told that My father is sick he is getting old and our
family is poor so everyone need to work even on weekend.

Our family was poor so we have

to work hard for our family

We have to save money for

water and food so it hard to buy
other goods

On around evening we saw Miyabi. She open

a small business that supported by NGO non
government organization. She is Danbizerlian wife
and she is the one who manage the house money.
We ask her how many saving for the family and is
their enough money for everyone in the family. She
told us that at first her family was poor but they
keep saving until she have enough money for
emergency situation and her son trip to return from
Thailand. As soon as she answer the question.
Miyabi children came back from school and we are
starting to have dinner. I volunteer for paying the
dinner and we went to a restaurant in Kampot for
dinner too. After our dinner I slept at Danbizerlian
home and wait for the next morning to began an
interview

I live in this land since there is no land mine and until now I am very old. My Health is not good and I
know that I am making my family poorer by just living and use my son family money. This make me
want to die. But however my son always love me also my grand children that is the only reason why I
still live

After staying with the family. I

learn that Miyabi miss her child so much.
She told us that she was so poor at first
so she has no choice but to send puta
and Zlatan her eldest son to Thailand for
working and sent back money for the
family. The families were worry about
the land mine.
A couple month ago Danbizerlian
almost get kill by the bomb. Luckily the
bomb is a dud so he was saved and near
the village. Also other villages were
infected by malaria too. There is threat
everywhere even right now the family
were threaten by a mafia. The mafia
always takes their 5 percent family
income and make the family poorer
every time.

The Landmines are among the most

barbaric weapons of war, because they
continue to kill and maim innocent
people long after the war itself has
ended. Also, fear of them keeps people
off the land, and thus prevents them from
growing food

some people in the government take part

After asking Miyabi we ask puta some question

about his life. He told us that he was lucky to go to
school a lot of his friend have not go to school. He
can read and write. But he need to work on the
weekend too. When he have a freetime like today.
He usually go swimming with his friend. I can see a
lot of boy near the river some of them are even
naked too.
After asking puta question. Rola who was the only girl child in the family that walked
with me to watch puta swimming. She sat beside the road with me and I began to
interview her. I ask her about her future. What will you become when you get older.
Unfortunately, Rola didnt have a good education enough. She told me that she just
went to school last year and barely to know how to read and write. Her family cannot
support her education in the past and right now it is to late.
I stop asking her question because she start to cry. It was very sad for her because she is
the only one in the family that didnt get a good education.

I think I am lucky for having a chance to

go to school even it cost me some of my
free time

I am not that lucky like Puta who goes to

school. I cannot catchup with my friend at
school and not that smart to do a work that
using knowledge

Life is Better
Danbizerlian struggle for a long time. But because everyone help from government
and non-government. Danbizerlian family became better. They have got a food aid from
the government and a government subsidies. The family have been able to earn a better
income and decrease their expense by the support of the government. Also NGO (Non
governmental organization) offer a money for Miyabi to start her own small business.
Miyabi stop became a farmer she had own a shop in Kampot and make an
awesome income for the Family. Finally Miyabi have enough money and sent Zlatan back
from Thailand. She is very happy to see her son again. Zlatan has been able to live with
his family and gain an education.
Danbizerlian family were a happy family. They witch that their will be no disaster
for us and maybe sometime if faith came The mafia might be gone somehow and we can
live happily without anyone will bother us. We ask him before we left that if you have
enough money will you move your family into different area or other country. They said
that My family live here longer than me even during world war II or in the civil war. They
still live here no matter what and by faith We still here. Danbizerlian say that he will not
leave Kampot and keep working for the better future of his family.

My ancestor live here during the world war II and Cambodia civil war. They still survive and live their
life happily. Even choosing to live Kampot is going to be better for us we will still choose stay here. If
my ancestor live their live here and why will I cannot. There is no reason for us to live we are a family
and we will be happy and long as we are all together
