ASSIGNMENT
ENGINEERING MECHANICS

ASSIGNMENT 1
1

A square ABCD of 1m side is acting by the forces 20KN, 40KN, 60KN & 80KN acting along AB,
BC, CD & DA respectively. Find the resultant completely.

The resultant of two forces when they act at right angle is 1N. Whereas when they act at an angle
of 60o the resultant is 148. Determine the magnitude of two forces.

ASSIGNMENT 2
1

A bar AB as shown in fig. is of negligible weight. It is acted upon by two forces 150N at a distance
of 2m along the rod from A and 200N at 4m along the rod from A. Total length of bar is 5m. The
bar is in contact with the smooth vertical wall and inclined plane. Determine the inclination of
the plane for equilibrium of the bar.

A bar of negligible weight is subjected to a vertical force of 60KN and horizontal force of 30KN as
shown in figure. Assuming the inclined surface to be smooth, determine the angle at which
equilibrium exist.

ASSIGNMENT 3

Find the centroid, Moment of Inertia and Product of Inertia of following

figures.

ASSIGNMNET 4

Two discs A and B weighing 200N and 300N respectively approach each other with
velocities 4 m/s and 2 m/s respectively. If the coefficient of restitution is 0.6 find: i)Their
velocities just after impact ii) Loss of energy during impact iii) If the impact lasts for 0.01
sec , find average impact force.

A cue strikes a billiard ball, exerting an average force of 50 N over a time of 10

milliseconds. If the ball has mass of 0.20 kg, what speed does it have after impacts?
