Assignment 2

Submit on 17/10/14
Q1. Explain in brief different functions of a switching system.
Q2. Explain in brief with a neat diagram distributed system.
Q3. Derive the Erlangs second distribution equation in case of switching systems,
for a finite queue capacity.
Q4 (a). During the busy hour, 1200 calls were offered to a group of trunks and six
calls were lost. The average call duration was 3 minutes. Find (i) the traffic
offered (ii) the traffic carried (iii) the traffic lost (iv) the grade of service (v) the
total duration of percentage of congestion.
(b). A group of 20 trunks provides a grade of service of 0.01 when offered 12E as
traffic. (i)How much is the grade of service improved if one extra trunk is added
to the group? (ii) How much does the grade of service deteriorate if one trunk is
out of service?
Q5. Find out all the possible gradients for the following cases and select the best
one of them. K=10, g=6, N=17.
Q6. Derive an expression for lost call system (GOS of a loss system).
Q7. Design a two stage link system of primary and secondary switches of size
1010 to interconnect 100 incoming and 100 outgoing calls.
Q8. What is grading? Describe the various types of grading.
Q9. Deduce the total no of cross points to three stage switching network with M
incoming and N outgoing trunks.
Q10. Explain in detail the basic call processing in digital switching system.
