2016 was an amazing year for the women known as The UMW of Missouri United Methodist Church. We
faced challenges with grace as we adapted to some new parameters. We supported one another in grief
as we comforted families who lost loved ones and honored members who were lost to us. We shared in
mission, service, and fellowship enriching our lives through reading, education and study. In this final
issue of the year, we celebrate our accomplishments and look forward to another year of spiritual growth,
education, fellowship, and mission.

CIRCLE NEWS

VALS CIRCLE
Vals Circle held a very successful mum sale in September. The
total profit for the mum sales was $520. The meeting time for
the circle has been changed to the second Monday of the
month beginning with lunch at 11:30 at designated locations.
The program will follow at 1:00 in the church Parlor.

EAGLE ONLINE CIRCLE

Eagle Circle met on October 24 for a gathering in the home of
Mary Beck. We shared a lovely evening together.
ESTHER CIRCLE
Members of Esther Circle provided two quilts for the Festival
of Sharing, one from the circle and another from one of its
members.

SEARCY-FEELY CIRCLE
Searcy-Feely reports that the profit from pecan sales was
$1,709.52. This amount is $850.00 less than last year. Our
2016 year of meetings ended with education, service, and
fellowship. In October, Judy Heffernan presented a program
on Eco Justice that was very informative. In November, we
worked at the Food Bank bagging potatoes. Following the
meeting, we celebrated with Lonetta Johnson by surprising her
with a birthday party. Although we do not meet in December,
we provided Christmas for a VAC family. We ended the year in
fellowship with a Christmas brunch hosted by Sue McKee.

REPORT FROM THE COORDINATOR OF COMMUNICATIONS

Diana Revelle

The 2017 Yearbooks are completed and copies have been

given to circle leaders. The suggested donation for each copy
is $3.00. Extra copies of the yearbook are kept in the secretary
desk in the Parlor for anyone needing them. A pull-out
calendar for the year has been included this year for your
convenience.
General information and announcements are shared by email
via the church CCB system. If your circle has anything that
needs to be shared with the unit via CCB, you can post that
information yourself, or contact me and I will be glad to send
it for you. The CCB is organized for members of MUMC, so if
you have a participant in your circle who is not a member of
the church, please remember to pass the information along.
Teressa Gilbreath is working on an updated church website
which will include improvements to the UMW page. She will
add links to the yearbook and the calendar and allow for
updates to an on-line calendar.

SOPHIA CIRCLE
Thank you for your support of Sophia Circle Fundraiser
Happy holidays from the members of Sophia Circle. Thank
you for ordering personalized cookware during our recent

MEMORIAL SERVICE
At the December 7th unit meeting, Julia Goodell organized and
led a memorial service honoring the 10 UMW members who
passed away during 2016. A candle was lit for each member
while a tribute was read honoring her life. We continue to
honor these women and their legacy to UMW, the community,
and beyond.

Over 60 UMW members and guests attended the December

MUMC UMW 4TH QUARTER NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2016

Diana Revelle, Editor

For several years, the Sophia Circle has organized a collection

for the five kit categories as well as cash to support the
purchase of beans and rice. The report from the circle reflects
the dedication of the group and generosity of MUMC: 101
prison kits; 44 paper product kits; 23 personal hygiene kits; 46
dental kits; 41 Readin & Writin kits; and $565 collected for
the purchase of beans and rice.

Gibson Circle

Members of UMW do not stop at financial support, however.

We also give time and energy to the preparation for the
Festival. Jeff Baker, Director of Mission Service and Justice
for the Missouri Conference has sent his personal thanks to
the unit:

Searcy-Feely Circle

In the days and weeks leading up the Festival of Sharing,

I came to the office and found groups of people working
hard to help us prepare. There was a buzz of energy and
activity processing and organizing kits. On several
occasions, I saw what I would describe as a team of
people doing much of the hard work getting us ready.
There was fellowship, laughing, joking and bits of
conversation that brightened the day. It is with much
appreciation, I say Thank you. Without the help and
service of several UMW circles from MUMC, we might
still be working to get the work done. We hope you
consider serving in the future to help kits reach people
and organizations in need.
