1. List each of your group members first and last names.

Leah Erickson, Michael Bloedow, Patrick Gannon

2. What was your question and why is it interesting?
Our question is whether or not mood affectivity is related to sexual offender status. We found
this question interesting because it would be good to know if sexual offenders have differences
in mood to provide different potential intervention strategies.
3. What was your hypothesis? What was your prediction?
we believe that if someone is a sexual offender, they will more likely have higher mood
affectivity. We predict that sex offenders show higher rates in mood related categories than non
offenders.
4. Describe your methods. Make sure your description is thorough enough that someone could
repeat your experiment. Was this experimental or observational? Explain your answer. What
were the independent and dependent variables? Did you have a control group or controlled
variables? What were they?
for our experiment, we used the JMP software to pull data. We compared rates of mood related
categories - Anxiety disorder diagnosis, grandiosity, impulsivity, mood disorder diagnosis,
exhibitionism, oppositional defiant disorder diagnosis, and self-esteem score - of sexual
offenders and non-offenders using a graph of the specific data set with the condition of sex
offender vs. non offender. This is an experimental set of data with our control group being the
non offenders and the experimental group being the offenders. Our independent variables are
the listed mood categories and our dependent variable is sex offender status.
5. Provide a graph of the data using Excel or JMP. Be sure to label your axes and provide a title.
Make sure the units are clear. In a simple statement, what do these data show?

Although there are slight differences between the groups, none are significantly different.
6. What conclusions can you draw from your data? Be sure that you refer to your initial
hypothesis and discuss what your results mean in terms of the bigger picture (real-world
connections). What, if any, obstacles did you experience? What, if any, potential sources of error
did you identify? What, if anything, would you do differently if you could do this again?
Our data did not show any significant difference between the delinquent groups. Unfortunately,
this data does only include delinquents so it is entirely possible that there could be a difference
from the general population to the sexual offenders. These data also come from a set group of

individuals and do not necessarily represent the entire population of sex offenders. If we had the
ability, we would test against a sample of the general, non-delinquent population. These data
also only include males so there couple be potential gender differences as well.
