THE JOB
You are the COMPANY.
The lecturer is the CLIENT.
The COMPANY has been awarded a JOB to
propose a design for a STUDENT
RESIDENTIAL MEDIUM-RISE BUILDING
WITH COMMUNAL HALL in UTHM. The
facility must house a 500 students.
The JOB consist of Part A, Part B, and Part C.

THE JOB PART A

In this part, you must demonstrate that you
understand the fundamentals of load path,
layout planning and stability of structures.
Using the given JOB, demonstrate this by
submitting sufficient information to
convince your CLIENT that the COMPANY
is capable of Part A.

THE JOB PART B

In this part, you must demonstrate that you
can recognise and identify existing steel
structures and different type of
connections.
Demonstrate this by submitting real
images and relevant drawing detail to
convince your CLIENT that the COMPANY
is capable of Part B.

THE JOB PART C

Part C is divided into 3 sub-sections.
The deliverables of Part C involves
structural layout, design calculations,
drawing and detailing of the JOB.

THE JOB PART C section 1

Provide clear drawings of the JOB. These
must include:
(1) structural layout
(2) important cross-sections
(3) important connections detailing
All drawing and detailing must be
clearly labeled.

THE JOB PART C section 2

Provide work design calculations for
(1) one of each structural element: (a) truss,
(b) column, (c) restrained beam, (d)
unrestrained beam; and
(2) one of each connection: (a) gusset joint in
truss, (b) truss to column, (c) column to base,
(d) beam to column.
The structural elements and connections
designed in this Section 2 must be clearly
labeled in Section 1

(1) column
(2) restrained beam

THE COMPANY

Must be no more than 5 members.

Every member must be active member.
Passive members will not be given marks.
One CEO must be appointed.
CEO must distribute work equally among
members.

Consist of 20% of the whole course
