News from 1st Grade ~ Mrs.

Schimp

Week of Jan. 9-13, 2017

Dear Parents,

Please continue to read books and practice math skills. I sent another list
home of the 150 sight words that first graders need to know by the end of
the year. I am continuing to send the Reading Log to encourage reading at
home. Fill in a line whenever you read to, read with, or listen to your child
read. The goal is to read at least 15 minutes a day/night. I will be assessing
the students progress next week. Make sure your child gets plenty of rest
and a good breakfast each morning. Attendance is very important during this
time, but I completely understand and support your decision to keep your

child home due to illness.

Please make sure your child remembers to bring his/her shoes to wear at

school during the snowy weather. Also keep practicing tying shoes at home.
The book orders are attached for January SeeSaw, Lucky, and 1st Graders.
You may order from all of the book clubs but only need to write one check
for the total to Scholastic Reading Clubs. If the class total is less than $20,
I will return your check and we will not order that month. Book orders will

be due Jan. 16th.

Even though the end of the second quarter was Jan. 6 th, report cards will not
be sent home until later in January because we need to include data from

assessments that cannot be completed until the end of the month.

The 100th day of school will be Wed., Jan. 25 if we dont have any more snow
days. We will do many activities to celebrate this special day.
Important dates:
Jan. 16- Book orders due
Jan. 27- No School. Professional Development

Sincerely,
Mrs. Schimp
