Organizational constraints

Budgets. Financial considerations are considered for the implementation of this project as the company has
already developed a fixed budget for this deployment based on a similar project in New York network. After all in this
type f project the scope changes after the current situation is assessed

Corporate policies. Most equipment in HQ is CISCO brand and that force us to deal with some preferred
vendor.

Scheduling issues. Scheduling issues is another business constraint. As part of deciding to pursue the
implementation a deadline is already fixed by HQ and should be completed on time

Personnel issues. No sufficient staff allocated to this project, also not all existing staff members doesnt
have the required knowledge

Business Goals
Scalability

Technical Goals

Availability

Every link to more than 1 user will be redundant, the network should
stay up all the time, even in the event of failed links, equipment failure,
and
overloaded conditions
High-speed, redundant links should be used

Modular solutions and hierarchical design (core, distribution and

access levels), the site have four-storey building, cores switches will
be in the middle, such as floor 2 or 3. With a core level, the network
should be easy to modify to adapt to network growth and general
business changes.

Security

Manageability

Build a secure unified infrastructure that supports voice, video, data,

and wireless.
Authentication server should implement on HQ, isolated traffic using
virtual network and Vlan. The network should be secure to access
remote resources
A single point of management will be use , the managing staff will base
in HQ branch at Toronto, every single device should use remote
console and secure layer 3 remote access such as SSH. Again
Hierachical design and modular solutions should implement for more
flexibility and management.

WAN

Based on the preceding list, it is obvious that the consideration for

WAN redundancy and high-speed are
required for the San Diego; however, cost and Availability of bandwidth
are some constraints that must be considered as well.
The WAN connection should be done using the multipoint connections
to the HQ and other site, is required for a service as voice for better
experience.
The WAN should be connected to the MDF distribution layer near to
demark.

Internet/

Some important considerations such IPSLA, downtime ,

service
Provider

How often failure occur, MTTR mean time to repair, SP reputation,

customer references , how old SP equipment, need to be analyze
before choosing the service provider. Again cost and Availability of
bandwidth are some constraints that must be considered as well
Metro Ethernet or fiber optic should be the best choice for San Diego
Site..

Technical Requirements
Bandwidth and applications requirements
The bandwidth is a critical part because all applications are remotely accessible, for this case, we
build a new network, and cant calculate the network bandwidth using the existing network. Our
calculation based on each application bandwidth requirement and the active users.

Criticality
Most of those are critical such as voice, video, email, Salesforces are critical, QOS
should implement with type 1 priority. The network should achieve reliability for
critical core applications.

QoS mechanisms should used, especially when using VoIP.

Technical constraints

Bandwidth or media limitations. For budgetary reasons HQ is not willing to replace their existing
infrastructure, that will perhaps present an issue regarding the requirement for the new application that we are
willing to implement on the San Diego Network.

Personnel limitations. Existing staff does not have the technical expertise required to help implement the
new San Diego Network.
