1. Introduction
It goes without saying that good lesson plan is the important element in teaching and
learning process. It is a detail plan or guidance which is aimed to help teacher conduct a
classroom interaction in a guided way. Brown (2001:149) stated that the term of lesson
plan is popularly considered to be a unified set of activities that cover a period of
classroom time. Plan is an arrangement for doing the lesson. Lesson plan usually contains
some components, such as goals, objective, indicators, materials and equipments,
procedure, learning source, evaluation and extra class work.
Actually, the systematic lesson plan will guide to provide the effective teaching
process. That is why, the teachers have to be able to develop good and systematic lesson
plan components. Unfortunately, many teacher still do not have enough capability to
design good lesson plan. Mahir (2011) described how the teachers in vocational school
developed each unit of lesson plans. The result is the teachers lesson plan can be
considered as incorrectly developed.most of the teachers made mistakes in constructing
sub-basic competence, the indicators, the classromm activities, materials or learning
resources, and the assessment. Anindita Badianti (2013), also reached similar conclusion
in her study of The analysis of junior high school English teachers lesson plan. She
found that most of the English teachers in Junior High School were not able to make
appropriate lesson plan. Some indicators, instructional objectives, learning materials,
learning method, learning sources and assessment in the lesson plan were poorly
formulated by the teachers. In addition, Visencia (2011) reported that English teachers
lesson plan in elementary school level at the sith grade is incorrectly organized. She found
that the teachers lesson plan did not attach entitlement competence or skill. Indicator and
instructional objective are not formulated correctly.
All these previous studies show that the teachers get difficulties and make many
mistakes in creating their lesson plans, that is why it is important to do a research in order
to identify common obstacles faced by them in creating good lesson plan.
2. Research problem
Obstacle faced by English junior high school teachers in creating lesson plan
3. Research questions
A number of research questions have been developed for this study. They are as follows
a. What factors which make teachers are unable to choose proper materials in creating
lesson plan?
b. What factors which make teachers are unable to determine indicators in creating lesson
plan?

c. How do the teachers respond to their inability in choosing proper materials and
determining indicator in creating lesson plan?
4. Research objectives
Based on the questions above, this study aims :
a. to identify factors which make teachers are unable to choose proper materials in
creating lesson plan,
b. to identify factors which make teachers are unable to determine indicator in creating
lesson plan
c. to investigate the teachers responses to their inability in choosing proper materials and
determining indicator in creating lesson plan
5. Data for research question
The sources data of this research are the English teachers in Junior High School who was
implementing teaching activities with lesson plan.
6. How to collect data
The instrument used to collect the data is interview. The interview is used for teachers to
obtain the data on factors which make teachers are unable to choose proper materials and
to determine indicator in creating lessons and and also to identify teachers responses to
their inability in choosing proper materials and determining indicator in creating lesson
plan.
7. Research design
In this study, the researcher used descriptive qualitative research design.
8. How to analyse the collected data for research
The obtained data, particularly the data from the interview with a number of English
teachers, will be analyse descriptively in order to get the information concerning the
obstacle faced by English junior high school teachers in creating lesson plan.
