Web Power Activities Chapter 1: The Power of Music Activity 1 Musical Genres: When people talk about music, you hear words like hip hop, reggae, easy listening, pop, bluegrass, country, classical, or heavy metal. But what do those words mean? These are different musical genres, categories. One way to learn about musical genres is to go to websites that sell music. At these websites, you can listen to music even if you dont buy anything. Go to the websites listed below, and listen to music in 5 different genres. What are your two favorite genres? To listen to the music, pick an album. Then scroll to Product Details. There you will see a list of songs on the album. Activity 2 Listening to Musical Subgenres: Within a musical genre, there are many subgenres. For example, jazz is a genre. There are many different kinds of jazz, or subgenres, such as Dixieland or Jazz fusion.
