Stamford Bridge Redevelopment Receives

Planning Approval

This week, Chelsea Football Club received planning approval from the
London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham to build a new 60,000seat stadium on its Stamford Bridge site. The Councils approval is the
culmination of twelve months of planning process.
The Club will now need to obtain various other permissions, including
from the Mayor of London.
Speaking in the wake of this announcement, Member of Parliament for
Chelsea & Fulham, Greg Hands, said: I am proud to have
represented Chelsea Football Club as their local Member of
Parliament over the past twelve years. I have always been supportive
in principle of the Club remaining at its historic home of more than 110
years.
"There is a commercial case for the Club to expand, and to be able to
have a stadium commensurate with its modern status, and to keep up
with Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham and others.
Nevertheless, I have engaged with the Club, and raised various
concerns throughout this process some of which have already been
resolved after my pressure and I commend the Club for being helpful.
I will now continue working with Chelsea to make sure that they listen
to local residents and other stakeholders concerns, and that any
impact from the redevelopment on the local area is mitigated as far as
is reasonable.
Chelsea Football Clubs statement can be found here, and more
information on this approval can be found on the Councils website.

Public consultation launched to cut night

flight noise at Heathrow, Gatwick and
Stansted
New measures to cut night flight noise at Heathrow, Gatwick and
Stansted published for consultation.
The government has announced new measures to cut the noise
allowed from night flights at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted.
Measures out for public consultation today (12 January 2017) will
help encourage the use of quieter aircraft to limit the number of people
significantly affected by aircraft noise at night, while maintaining the
existing benefits to passengers and the economy of night flights.
Current night flight restrictions at the 3 airports expire in October 2017,
and the new rules will last for the next 5 years up to 2022.
Measures out for consultation include:
reducing the total noise quota at Heathrow Airport by at least
43% in the winter (from 4,080 to 2,340) and 50% in the summer
(5,100 to 2,540)
reducing noise quotas at Gatwick by at least 17% in the winter
(from 2,000 to 1,655) and 21% in the summer (6,200 to 4,870)
setting a strict cap at existing levels for the number of night
flights from Heathrow and Gatwick
ending exemptions for almost 1700 night flights operating out of
Stansted by including these in the new cap, setting a strict limit
which the airport cannot exceed
Aviation Minister Lord Ahmad said: "This government is committed to
tackling the issue of aircraft noise, especially flights at night, which can
be a blight for people living near airports.
"Night flights are, however, important to the economy, creating extra
choice for passengers and moving freight, and we need to carefully
balance the needs of local communities with the benefits these flights
can bring. Thats why we are encouraging the use of quieter aircraft by
bringing in tighter noise quotas at the airports and setting strict caps
on aircraft movements at night.
"The consultation will run until Tuesday 28 February 2017, after which
responses will be reviewed and a final decision on night flights will be
published."
Background information
This consultation is not connected to the governments announcement
in October 2016 on its preference for expansion at Heathrow,
subject to full and fair consultation, and restrictions will last 5 years, up
to 2022.
The government will also be launching a consultation on airspace
policy shortly. We will be proposing measures to ensure the interests
of communities affected by aircraft noise are properly balanced with
those of passengers and the industry, including how an independent
aviation noise body can facilitate better engagement on noise issues.
Each aircraft is set a quota value between 0 and 16 depending on how
loud it is upon take-off and landing. By reducing the total noise quota
allowance, industry will be encouraged to use quieter aircraft.

International Trade Secretary - 2017 must

be 'Year of Exporting'
Liam Fox calls on businesses to seize export opportunities as
DIT identifies 50 key countries for growing trade.
The government is urging businesses to make 2017 the year of
exporting as it encourages them to seek new markets and seize the
demand for British goods and services.
Exports contribute over 511 billion to the UKs GDP and with a
renewed focus on international trade the government has identified
opportunities in over 20 sectors spanning over 50 countries for UK
businesses to look at supplying into.
The Department for International Trade (DIT) is now developing
almost 200 high value exporting campaigns to target these markets
and sectors and help companies make their mark abroad.
International Trade Secretary, Dr Liam Fox, said: "With a new year
comes new opportunities and I want to encourage businesses big and
small, up and down the country, to take advantage of them. From
technology in India to aerospace in the USA theres no shortage of
demand and UK businesses have the knowledge, skills and expertise
to truly add value and make the UK a partner of choice.
'We are world-leaders in many sectors such as financial services and
technology. My department has already identified more than 50
countries that could benefit from British expertise and we are
continuing work on exploring more export opportunities with other
nations. We have a real opportunity to build on this countrys wide
range of successful exports, reach out to new markets and help more
businesses achieve their exporting potential.
"DIT is doing all it can to help companies achieve success through
actively making representations to overseas buyers and governments,
organising key meetings and missions, showcasing UK products to
overseas buyers and providing direct financial support through UK
Export Finance.
"As well as this, the department continues to work closely with its
network of 44 Business Ambassadors and 20 Trade Envoys to
regularly identify prospective markets, promote the strengths of the UK
and ultimately secure more business for the UK."
Specific examples of projects include:
a 0.5 million deal to export Air Traffic Control software to Latin
America
a 100 million deal to export solar farm technology to Africa
a multi-million negotiation to export more whisky overseas
a 5 million deal to export a television programme to the United
States
a 50 million deal to build an amusement park in China
More broadly, potential business opportunities identified by the
department include:
renewable energy projects in Kenya;
advanced manufacturing in Brazil;
infrastructure projects, for example airports and railways in
Hong Kong and mainland China;
construction in the Philippines
financial services to the likes of Australia or Brazil;
technology to India, Japan or Mexico;
healthcare to China and the Gulf
Focusing its activity where it can add real value and where businesses
will see a strong return on investment, DITs work sits alongside its
efforts to increase the number of companies exporting and follows on
from the launch of a new digital hub www.great.gov.uk in
November 2016.
The governments new online exporting hub has over a thousand live
opportunities available right now for UK companies looking to export.

Chelsea in the news:

Independent artisan shops open in new

Chelsea food haven
Goolistan Cooper, Getwestlondon
Friday 23rd December 2016
Five independent businesses will be trading in Pavilion Road before
the end of the year, and more are due

The new foodie heavan area in Chelsea.

A brand new foodie haven is opening in the heart of Chelsea .
Artisan shops will open in Pavilion Road, near the new George House
development in Sloane Street, and will be joined by further skilled
independents and a restaurant, which will overlook a "hidden"
courtyard garden inspired by Corso Como, in Milan, Italy.
The news was announced by Cadogan Estates followed a public
consultation with residents to understand what they wanted to see in
the neighbourhood.
The feedback from more than 75% of respondents was that they felt
the introduction of independently owned shops selling quality produce
would enhance Chelseas village feel and benefit the local community.
As a result, the area is welcoming Provenance, a traditional family
butcher, fine wine shop, Pavilion Wine, a bakery and school Bread
Ahead, Natoora, a greengrocer offering a range of fresh seasonal
produce, and London Cheesemongers which specialise in sourcing
traditional produced cheeses.
All shops will be open by the end of the year.
Hugh Seaborn, Cadogan CEO, said: We spent over a year actively
seeking the right artisans who would become part of the community
small, independently run shops that deliver a richer experience and
enhance Chelseas village feel.
We had clear direction of residents desires for shops that serve local
people, so we deliberately sought leaders in their field to meet these
requirements.
Pavilion Road is already home to some of the best independent
fashion and beauty operators, and with an exciting restaurant soon to
be announced, these new additions will add further vibrancy and
character to the area.
Provenance owner, Tom Gibson, was excited to be moving into the
area.
He said Chelseas bustling heart is Sloane Square, and to be so close
to the action is an exciting prospect for all of us at Provenance.
The sense of history in Chelsea, combined with the beautiful streets
and houses, and the eclectic mix of nationalities makes for a perfect
place to become part of a renewed food movement in the area."
